“Convenient Location, Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We recently stayed at the hotel Saturday night thru Tuesday morning and, although the hotel was always very busy, the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean, has some decent views, and is conveniently located near a BART & muni station. Market Street, with its streetcars and bus lines, is just a half a block away. Any of these transportation options can easily get you the Ferry Building, Fisherman's Wharf, or any other part of the city you may want to visit.

The Marriott in downtown San Fran is just what you would expect it to be. Great service, great food, great facility. My only complaint was the location of the room which backed up to the elevator tower. It sounded like a train was coming through the room every time the elevator zoomed up or down the building.... DON'T let them give room 52 on any floor. You won't get a good nights sleep.

Room Tip: DON'T get room 52 on any floor - it backs up against the elevators

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in San Francisco and staying at this hotel enhanced our visit. Although it was very busy in the lobby our room on the 19th floor was quite peaceful. Check out the lounge on the 39th floor for spectacular views of the city. Stay here and you are close to the Powell Street terminus for the cable cars, BART, Buena Yerba Gardens, the museum of modern art and the Comtemporary Jewish Museum.

This hotel is conveniently located for quick and easy access to Moscone, with a 5 minute walk to it, through a nice park. It is San Francisco, afterall, so there are many restaurants and shops in every direction. Here on business but would bring my family if on vacation.

Quiet room, good location for my meetings. Staff was delightful. my room was clean and the staff had it well prepared each morning. the bathroom was clean and they didn't replace unused towels which I appreciated and felt the hotel was eco friendly.

Room Tip: get a rewards cards it pays off

This property is on Fourth street between Market and Mission, so it is walking distance to most anything one could want downtown, and quite close to the convention center. It is about a block from the Powell Bart station. It has very nice amenities, among the best I've seen at the Marriott line of hotels. The view lounge on the 39th floor does indeed have spectacular views. The drinks are priced accordingly, but certainly not outrageous for San Francisco.

Room Tip: The higher the room, the better the view.

This hotel is ideal for business/convention travel. It is not in an ideal location for tourists, though I was still able to take some long walks and see the sights. For the business traveler, lots of retail shopping and drugstores nearby in case you forgot anything or need food later at night. Lots of coffee options nearby.

Hotel:
Clean rooms and friendly/helpful housekeeping staff - in fact, all the staff (valet, desk) were very pleasant and helpful.
I didn't eat at the hotel since there were many local options.
Directional signs in the hotel were potentially confusing - the layout of each floor is confusing when you exit the elevators. Easy to wander around lost.
Gym was expansive compared to other hotel gyms, lots of equipment and individual TVs for each. You had to sign in, but no charge.
Negative: must pay for internet access - big negative, especially for a business hotel.
Easy-access outlets on lamps, deep drawers in the room, generally everything seems newer.
Negative: Minibar was weight-sensitive, no room for your own items in refrigerator.

Location:
Pricey cab ride from airport ($50 including tip) but then I found the CalTrain station, which is ~10 block walk / $10 cab ride away.
You can take the BART at SFO airport to the CalTrain (less than $10 ride) and then take a cab ($10) to the hotel. Lots of changing but significantly cheaper option.

2+ mile walk to Fisherman's Wharf
1+ mile walk to Embarcado
