“A Touch of Class”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in December ‘12. The Prescott is a boutique hotel in the Kimpton Collection, and is very conveniently located just a short distance from Union Square and the Powell Street Cable Car line. Hotel parking is valet only and is rather pricey ($44 per day) but there are a number of parking garages in the area that offer more reasonable options. The small but attractive lobby opens on one side to a very comfortable lounge area and to Wolfgang Puck’s Postrio bar/restaurant on the other. The lounge area is where complementary wine is served each afternoon, a nice touch.

Our room (#601) was a standard king, very attractively furnished in a traditional style. The room was good sized and well appointed with two night stands, an bureau with plenty of drawer space, a lockable mini bar ($10 credit if you are a Kimpton Club member) with small fridge, a built-in desk, and a fair sized built-in closet with room safe. The a.c. was quiet and effective. A minor complaint was that the bed was a bit too soft for our tastes and the pillows too hard. The bathroom was large and attractive, with adequate counter space. There was a shower/tub combo.

All in all we recommend the Prescott and would likely stay there again. The location, the excellent friendly service, and the reasonable (for SF) cost make it a very good choice for downtown San Francisco.

Just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Prescott. Rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. Morning coffee was always fresh and an excellent quality, afternoon wine reception an added bonus. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. An extra special thanks to Mike, the bellman, for his excellent recommendations on sights to see and places to eat during our day trip to Sausalito!

My husband and i spent Christmas eve nite and Christmas nite at this hotel. We wanted to get away for Christmas and S.F. was a nice short car ride from our home. We picked this hotel because of it's location and it is Pet Friednly (no extra charge :-) ). It is an old historic S.F. hotel, very well maintained and clean. We got a King Suite Club Level, we were very happy with our spacious room. My only complaints were no room service on Christmas day / nite And that your pet is not allowed to be left alone in your room (she is not a barker). It is really impossible to go out to eat and take your pet with you to a restaurant. Th first nite my hubby walked to a Chinese restaurant and brought food back to the room. Christmas nite was a little more difficult since they had no room service and not a lot of choices for dinner when you have your pet with you.

Dear minimom,

Thanks for choosing to spend your holiday with us. Usually we can assist in finding pet friendly restaurants but you're correct in that the choices are fewer with many restaurants also closed on the holiday. We will definitely think about room service options over the next holiday or perhaps suggest a delivery service that many restaurants participate in.
Thank you again for your feedback.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Hotel Prescott over Christmas. The hotel was lovely, warm and friendly (pet friendly too, although that's not why we picked it) and in a great location just steps from Union Square. Our room was a good size, contrary to some previous reviews, and well appointed. Front desk staff were friendly and the 'happy hour' from 5pm to 6pm was a great meeting point for our party of 7 (champagne, white wine, red wine all complimentary). Complimentary tea and coffee in the mornings also. Breakfast buffet a little overpriced at $16 for bagel/cereal/fruit so we ordered separate items, but plenty of alternative places available. Reasonable price compared to other hotels in the area and a great choice, we would stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a corner room overlooking Post St and it really wasn't that noisy, even with the window o...

Our second time at the Prescott and still lovin' it. Great location just off Union Square means you can shop till you drop, catch a cable car (or bus or BART) or just enjoy the boutique hotel experience. Rooms are good size with the usual amenities. What makes it special are the Kimpton touches like the wine and cheese evening breaks, or the pet friendly possibilities. We are especially fond of the club level with its comfortable living room space and extra benefits like continental breakfast. Truly the best part is Neoo, our host at the club level, for the evening relaxation with bar and pizza, who is personable, attentive to details and bringing in the next generation (his kids now work here). The front desk is very helpful and makes you feel welcome. The fitness room lets you look out over SF rooftops. We hope to be back...

So central, good customer service, excellent range of complementary items if you had forgotten or needed to borrow. Providing yoga mat, block and strap is brilliant, to use the in room yoga and meditation channel on the tv. Lets hope other hotels follow suit as its not something i want to carry everywhere and yoga in your room can be much quicker than padding up and down the hallways to a gym

I reserved a suite on the Club Level for a 3-day stay with the intention of using my suite to hold meetings and work with a colleague. On arrival, I found only a small desk wedged into an alcove and a two-seater couch with low coffee table. With no suitable place to set up computers to work, my colleague and i moved to the public area outside the room in the Club Level. Promptly at 4:30pm, a bartender turned all the lights to low moody levels and told us the happy hour would start soon. We kept working, assuming that no one shows up for such things, but soon the room filled with loud holiday revelers. At some point, the bartender told us we had to move our papers because they were busy and seated a family of three at our table. Since my room was directly adjacent to the happy hour space, I realized working here would be impossible. I checked out immediately and moved to the Mandarin Oriental, a more serious hotel for business. The staff here are very friendly and the hotel is a pleasant place for families and leisure travelers. Just do not come here expecting a hotel that can accommodate the business traveler.

Room Tip: Room 431 on the Club Level is directly next to the happy hour area. If you don't like the sound...

Dear leslievosshall,

Thank you for review. We apologize that it appeared we couldn't accomodate your need for work space. We have a large percentage of business guests and are always willing to try to accomodate guests who need additional space (i.e. sometime we have a vacant board room available). We are dissappointed that we didn't have the opportunity to find a better work space solution.

Respectfully,
