“Fantastic location--rooms very good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here 2 nights. My room was small but very nice, not a great view but that's ok. Beautiful, comfy robe in closet along with some cute slipper socks--didn't take advantage of them, but nice touch--so was the courtesy umbrella in the closet. I was concerned about the noise because my room was right next to the elevator and the maintenance closet , but very quiet!! The location was so nice--close to cable cars and union square. Restaurant was great too, but a little pricey. Comfortable beds, big tv, free wi if if you sign up for their frequent guest program, and wonderfully friendly staff. I think everyone I saw greeted me. Would highly recommend!!

The Prescott is located in union square area and is in an old building which adds to its charm. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable. My only issue is the funky " cat urine" smell that is present throughout the hotel. It's a bit off putting, but I noticed it more than others. The staff is friendly and service is great.

Hi Tracy M,

We're so glad you found our staff friendly and the hotel charming. After reading a couple of comments regarding a distinct smell and trying to determine what it is then coincidently being present in the lobby on several occasions most often between 4:15 and 5pm, I too get a whiff of "something" that blows in from outside into the lobby (our street is like a wind tunnel) and I have the sensation of being in the Haight Ashbury. Its not a daily occurence and it does disappate.. I must talk to the neighbors. Not to make light of what you smelled but that is what I and, our friendly staff, believe it is. We will remain vigilant on the scent trail, though. Thanks again for visiting us.

Respectfully,

Stayed here recently, and thought it was a good value, as San Francisco goes. Great location, and a friendly staff. One might consider the JW as a classier alternative, but that is most likely much more expensive. This is a great location for a quick trip to San Francisco.

We stayed at the Prescott for four nights and it was great. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The hotel is within walking distance of Union Square, Cable Cars, Moscone Center, and other great dining and shopping spots. While we had no view to speak of, the hotel was amazingly quiet for a SF hotel. There was also a wine reception from 5-6. The Prescott was great.

We were very impressed by this hotel. Our two night stay was most enjoyable. Our room was not very big but city centre hotels rarely are and it was not exactly small. It was however very pleasantly decorated and furnished and was also very comfortable and quiet. The only down side of the location was the lack of any view. (Difficult to achieve when the hotel is surrounded by other buildings). The location however is excellent being close to Union Square and a short walk to the Powell Mason cable car turntable.
My wife had been ill on the day we arrived so the ground floor wine reception was a pleasant diversion while she slept. The staff was excellent. Ice was delivered to our room almost as soon as we requested it. Reception and concierge staff were also welcoming and courteous.
The only glitch was that the valet parking service was very slow to return our car. It took nearly one hour to return rather than the promised twenty minutes. This should not happen when you are paying 44 dollars a day! However the concierge handled the situation well, chased up the valet company twice and eventually refunded a days parking fee for our inconvenience. His manner was courteous and polite throughout.

Hello baloo42,

Thank you for your review of kind comments and informing us of the valet glitch. We're appreciative that you found us responsive in resolving the situation. We hope that your wife -after her first day- recouperated fully to enjoy all that San Francisco has to offer. We look forward to seeing you again when your travels bring you back to the city.

We just spent a nice weekend at the Prescott for the Nike Marathon weekend. The location can not be beat. It is with in walking distance to countless restaurants and wonderful upscale shopping. Union Square is steps away. We were upgraded to a Penthouse Suite which was absolutely fabulous. It had a dining room to easily seat 8 with a baby grand piano, a living room, bedroom and a wonderful rooftop terrace. Breakfast was included with choices of breads, fruit, drinks and cereals. We ordered off a hot entre menu that cost extra but was very good.

The front desk people were friendly and helpful and Mike the bell man was wonderfully helpful and full of tips and information. The staff really made our stay magical.

We used the fitness room everyday. Although it is small it is well equipped and we were the only ones in it every day. The evening cocktail reception on the Club level was nice. The bar tender didn't have the right ingredients for a cosmo but improvised and it turned out terrific. The food choices were fine, not as nice as some other Kimptons we've stayed in but were adequate. The staff really goes above and beyond and could not have been more helpful and friendly. We would return here in a heart beat.

Room Tip: If offered a chance to upgrade...Take It.

It took us about 20 hours travelling time to get to the hotel. We checked in, we were given our room key and the elevator was pointed out to us. It seemed like ages, but eventually the elevator arrived. Our room was quite small but adequate, with a lovely view of the windows in an adjacent building. I searched in vain for a coffee machine, water was available at 6 dollars a bottle though.
There was a huge TV which was not switched on during our 4 day stay, I'd have preferred a coffee maker! Breakfasts were OK, but after 4 of them I started to crave a decent slice of toast and butter, I don't think the US has butter like Europe knows it. The staff were fine, Mike at the desk was a star. I think that the hotel is primarily for business guests and don't encourage tourists.
