“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

A fabulous hotel. Upgraded to one of the junior suites. Service was first class - friendly, personable but unobtrusive, hotel immaculate and great location. A very personal feel for what is a reasonable size hotel.

Room Tip: Go for club floors

The Prescott Hotel is centrally located downtown San Francisco. The rooms were nicely decorated though smallish. The staff was excellent, typical of Kimpton hotels. We took advantage of the inexpensive upgrade to a suite.

The rooms are a bit smallish, but that's to be expected in the city. It's nicely decorated and the staff was friendly. We had a very comfortable stay.
There's a restaurant/bar downstairs, which was OK. And there's another Italian style restaurant in the building adjacent (connected via a hallway). It was a quite pricey, and also a bit quiet when we went there. But the food was very good and the service was great.

We stayed for four nights after driving in San Francisco. Car was put into valet parking, expensive but that is the nature of the city.Very friendly staff at all times. Well equipped rooms with excellent Internet facilities. Loved the complimentary drinks each night which allowed us to meet a variety of travellers. Breakfast was included, quite adequate for our needs. Good location to union square and china town. A longer distance to fishermans wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge.Would not hesitate to stay there again as it is an intimate hotel.

This gem of a hotel is in an excellent location if you are visiting San Francisco to shop, go to the theater or soak in the ambiance of downtown. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms much larger than even newer hotels in the city. I stayed on the Club level and even though my room was right next to the elevator, the room was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable.

Room Tip: The Club Level provides complimentary coffee in the morning, cocktails in the early evening.

Business trip, conference. My company normally uses the Nikko, but rates there have gone up. Thus the Prescott. Not bad at all. I got a Club Level Queen. It was worth it. The Club Level is in an adjacent building. Enter in small lobby, go to elevator, up to ~5 floor (?), cross to neighboring building via nice hallway. Enter building in a nice lobby/sofa area. Evenings there is a hosted happy. When I was there this was wildly popular with many guests planning there entire day around this little event, including myself.

Rooms: (Club Level) nice, small suite with sitting/living room. Comfortable, nice beds, furniture newish, contemporary. You can tell it's an older room in an older building by the windows and height of room. Nonetheless, it was a good room. NOTE: no view other then look at other buildings or rooftops. The building is not that tall (8 floors). NOTE: I equested a QUIET room. So my room was on the back side of the building.

Breakfast: Due to the Club Level access, I got the continental breakfast included. Not great, but adequate. Dry cereal, little fruit, bagels, coffee, OJ. It was all I needed.

Other: Great newspaper selection (NYTimes,WSJ,..). Super Friendly staff. Great location (midway between Powell St. Station and California St.).

Other: first night @ 11:30pm housekeeping resupplied a supply closet adjacent to my room. Clinking of glasses for 1/2 hr. I mentioned this to lobby staff in the morning, reminded them in the afternoon. They assured me it would be taken care of. It was. next three night we QUIET. Kudos for lobby and housekeeping staff!

Summary: great value in this part of SF. Not super lux, but very nice. Give it a try!

Room Tip: Quiet rooms are on backside of building.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

My group of 6 was in town for 4 nights, and because of a huge convention making finding rooms downtown difficult, we ended up at the Prescott. It's a boutique hotel with average sized rooms, and small bathrooms. There were no sleeper sofas, and no roll-aways available, so beware if you have an extra member of your group that might need one of the above. The thermostat in my room never worked and as a result the room was much too warm. Management said they would fix it - they never did. For $350+ a night we expected better. The window wouldn't open, so we just endured the heat. You receive vouchers for breakfast, which is the usual cereal/fruit/rolls/coffee/juice. For extra money you can get hot eggs, which we didn't do. There is a reception on the Club level from 4:30-6:30 that includes free drinks, cheese, and pizza - very nice. Also in the Club level is a computer and printer. We were going to use it to print out our boarding passes for the flight home...until we saw that it cost $7.95 for 15 minutes use. Not cool at all - we got our boarding passes at a kiosk at the airport instead. The two best things about the Prescott are the location - right downtown, close to the BART, buses, and cable cars...and the friendly help at the front desk and concierge. There was a revolving set of staff during our visit, but all were exceptionally helpful and friendly.

Dear pgrabar-

We apologize that you had a "just ok" experience. We feel there were a few opportunities that we missed out on to make your visit that much better. First, our concierge or front desk are always happy to print your boarding pass for you with our compliments. Given that you visited over a busy city wide conference, we're not sure if you had the option of reserving a Suite- with sleeper sofa- and we regret that a rollaway may not have been available. Most importantly, we are truly sorry for not extending extraordinary service to ensure that your A/c was either fixed or you were made to feel more comfortable. Your comments will be shared with our Engineering department to illustrate how we can continue to improvement our guests' experience. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
