When we first got to the hotel, I wasn't really sure about it. The room was cold and a little brightly decorated for my tastes, but after a while, it grew on me. Then I lay down on the bed and I was hooked!!!!!! (and the heater was just enough) The room was huge (for what we paid) and the staff was incredible! We asked for an early check-in - not a problem. We had to leave the hotel for a while; they kept our parking space reserved for us for when we returned. Not to mention, they were just the best! Even though we live about 2 miles from this hotel, we have discussed it and will spend weekend getaways here from time-to-time. Just want to thank EVERYONE at the Phoenix for a real good time!

I have stayed at the Phoenix many times and love the location and the atmosphere. The Bambudda lounge is a great place for dinner. The staff are hip, cool and the outdoor space rocks.

I stay in hotels over 200 nights a year. I loved this hotel. Very Retro feel. Great Customer Service! I felt better staying here than I do at most all of your 4 star hotels. Most of those places are just so inconvenient. Felt very welcomed at the Phoenix Hotel and would definably recommend it if you want to stay in a very unique and conscious hotel. Thanks!!!

Cool concept, but noisy & cold--with hotel restaurant that was closed!

I was only here for two nights, and I wanted to check it out knowing full-well it was in the Tenderloin and wasn't anything fancy. I was OK with the sketchy neighborhood because I'd be out in meetings all day and really just wanted to see the concept.

They've done a great job with updating the motor-inn while keeping it true to the essence. My complaints are really rather simple:

1. The restaurant/bar is not open on Sunday-Tuesday--which is when I stayed here. Normally not a problem in the city, but I can't exactly go walking around this neighborhood at night to explore!

2. The room is not well-insulated, because of the windows, so it was pretty cold at night and the only heater is an ancient wall heater down in the corner by one of the beds. I had to take the blankets from both beds and put them over me to be comfortable.

3. The bedspreads smelled pretty musty. I took them off right away, but they seem like they could use a good airing out.

4. This is a complaint I have of many hotels. Though they say they won't replace your towels if you hang them back up, they do! This is annoying because I've held up my end of the bargain and they just ignore it and waste all that water.

Excellent hotel with awesome staff and amenities that made me feel like a rock star. Room was nice and bathroom was new. Plenty of parking, monitored 24 hours, in front of hotel. I came to see a favorite band at a local venue and the cab ride was cheap. I spotted several band members at the pool area the next morning having breakfast - very cool. It's definitely the best place to stay in SF and I look forward to my next rock-star stay!
