“Great Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Superb location… just a few steps from Market St…. at the back of Ross, The Container Store and Old Navy. If you intend to shop and dine in the Union Square/Market St. area, this is the perfect place to stay. Lobby is okay, but the room is spotless! Though I got a small room and bathroom, the cleanliness compensates for the size. The one thing that I did not like though, was that my 5th floor room was in front of 4th St. and I had a hard time sleeping because of the noise, but overall, I would still stay here again, I would just have to bring earplugs next time.

I have stayed at this wonderful hotel twice in the last three weeks. It is within walking distance to the Moscone Center and Union Square. The historic style of the multistory facility makes one feel you stepped back in time. The artistic architecture was enhanced with colorful schemes. Guest services were helpful when selecting local sites to visit.

Room Tip: If you are traveling single select the single room with hallway shower and bathroom.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel NOV 16-18, 2012. The hotel was very clean inside and out. The location was in a prime location with easy access to everything around you. Because of the location the area can be loud, kinda like mini NY, so if you have a room overlooking the street it could be loud even at nights. I love starring out the window from the 5th floor and see all the people walking and the cool night lights. The rooms are small but very clean and you have your private bathroom with shower. The TV had a few channels only but there was free wifi, very strong so it made up for it. The parking is 33 a night and they park it for you about 20 mins away so you have to give them that time to get it. The staff are nice for the most part, but if there is one place that needs improvement it would be the staff, more smiles and a simply hello would be nice. However your not there to make new friends, you just need a simple clean close location hotel newly remodeled to sleep the night and wash up. I would go back, if price remains the same 107 a night.......

The hotel is strategicallly located, next to malls and some steps to Market Street, Powell station, etc. It's very clean, i had a room at the end of the hall, very quiet. It's a small room, but enough to sleep, wash and have some rest. Good quality of wifi, friendly staff. I recommend it if you are visiting for shopping and as a tourist. I noticed that on 4th St there are no homeless people, which are almost all over Union Square and surroundings. The price is very good too.

Room Tip: Choose at the end of the hall, I reserved a shared bathroom room, but when I checked in, I was offer...

Really close to union square and china town. Good area, always lots of people around, close public transportation to anywhere you could want to go. Friendly and helpful staff. We visited from Australia for 4 nights and would definitely stay again next time round.

Had picked out a few places for consideration: Hotel Stratford, The Mystic and The Mosser. In the end, I opted for The Mosser partially due to the value for price and also that it seemed to be closer to Powell MUNI station. Overall, I was pretty much satisfied with my choice.

Had opted for a queen room with shared bath. Was quite surprised at the small size of this room and did wonder what the single would have been like! It was smaller than some singles I have experienced even in Europe. Still, with a Queen bed in the room, half of the bed was given over to store some of my baggage/purchases. No problem.

The shared bath facility was very clean and I always had immediate access to it. Thumbs up! A suggestion for management though, if ever re-modeling. Bath tubs may not be necessary? A shower stall would be safer to get in and out of.

Those who sleep lightly should try to ask if the room assigned can be away from the hall toilet. I was given a room next to the shared toilet (WC) and could occasionally hear flushing in the middle of the night. It did not disturb me but just a consideration for light sleepers!

Internet - good. Coffee/tea in the lobby from 7 to 10am - good. Muffins served at same time - can skip. Staff - always friendly and pretty helpful.

Location. Really convenient since close to Union Square, BART, MUNI and cable car. Target and Walgreen's are like 5 minutes walk away for groceries and such too, if one chooses to have a quick din-in after a long day out.

The Mosser is a unique hotel, among other reasons, in that it is like the only hotel in downtown San Francisco (that is NOT a dive) that has both regular rooms (room with bath), and more economical rooms (room with shared bath), that are CLEAN and comfortable. This gives the traveler more pricing options, especially for the budget minded traveler. Don't worry, the rooms with shared bath do have a sink and mirror.

The Mosser was remodeled several years back, and whoever did the remodeling job, did a good job-- the beds are now more comfortable, and the remodeling uses Japanese space saving technique and design, without sacrificing comfort.

Yes, some of the rooms are on the small side, but not too small, like some comparable European hotels. I do wish there was more space in the rooms, but you cannot have it all.

The Mosser used to charge for internet access, but now wireless internet access (high speed) is free. And, there is a computer now, in the lobby with printer, that allows for example, one to print out ones plane boarding pass(es) for free. Or, you can check email if you forgot to bring your computer. It is a VERY good idea not to nickel and dime customers, as this is a big turn off. High speed (broadband) wireless internet should always be included for free.

Summary:

1. Good location
2. Variety of room choices.
3. Reduced price weekly rate, for rooms w/shared bath. (price will very depending on whether booked during "low" or "high" season.
4. Free high speed wireless internet.
5. Clean, comfortable, and safe.
6. More sound proof windows were installed, when hotel was remodeled several years back.

Room Tip: Book early.
