“book it, now.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Great location, dirt cheap for what it is, clean clean clean. Converted old hotel and some signs of that are still apparent (baseboards that look like they were salvaged from an avalanche) but I'd go back here in a heartbeat and my wife feels the same. Beds are first rate. Wifi is good and speedy enough. Place was startlingly quiet. Did not expect that.

Staff is awesome as well, friendly and gets stuff done.

If you like sleeping in, put the DND sign on your door, cleaning staff is up and ready to rock by 9am.

Blue Bottle Coffee is three short blocks away, Mason Street Cafe is right around the corner. You're set for food right there.

No compunctions about giving this place five stars. They earned it.

We found the hotel is well located for our visit to San Francisco this February. The Tourist Information office is loctated just round the corner as well as the start of one of the Cable car lines, which we used to get to the Fishermans Wharf area.

Union Square is only a few blocks away, so the shopping part of our trip was well catered for.

The staff were very pleasant and there is Tea & Coffee available in the lobby in the morning so you do not need to use the in-room equipment.

Free Wi-fi was good and the TV was big and the cable package was plentiful in the room.

We had an inside room and there were no street noise problems.

This hotel is great value in an excellent location.
The rooms are comfortable, clean and have everything you need. The bed and pillows were great.
You are close to Union Square, the Powell Street BART and the cable cars.
Wifi is free and reliable and there is a coffee maker in the room.
For value, I don't think you can beat Hotel Abri. I would definitely stay there again...and I'm pretty fussy :)

This hotel is located in busy Union Square and is walking distance from everything. While it isn't a 5-star hotel, the employees and service that we experienced rivalled any 5-star property that I've stayed at.

Prior to coming to San Francisco we booked a suite and were given a room on the 2nd floor. Unfortunately our room was directly in the exhaust path of the nearby Subway and we could smell the bread baking in the oven. My friend didn't like the smell so we requested a different room and within 10 mins the front desk had sent someone up to help us move to another floor. No questions were asked. This high level of service continued throughout our trip. Whether it was a restaurant recommendation or tips on what to see and do, the front desk staff was always friendly and helpful.

Thanks Abri for making our first trip to San Francisco so memorable. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Higher floors are better. On the 2nd floor you can smell the food from the nearby Italian restaurant...

This is not a 5-star hotel. If you want a 5-star hotel then expect to pay a 5-star price. This hotel is clean, well located, comfortable and EXCELLENT value for money in San Francisco. The staff were extremely helpful and thoughtful (especially on the occasion of our anniversary). Would return without hesitation.

We stayed at the Hotel Abri for a long weekend recently. Overall, the room was nice and the hotel had a modern, clean vibe. Location was good. Valet to bring our car took over an hour, and there was quite a bit of noise even after asking for a quieter room. We also pre-paid our entire room rate, and after confirming this at check-in, were startled at 5 am while trying to leave when we were asked to pay an extra charge that the woman at the desk could not explain (and did not really try - she did try to calculate to see if the extra amount was tax, but when that was incorrect she just told us we had to pay and deal with it later). We ended up having to pay it in order to make our flight on time, but were able to get a refund after spending some time proving our pre-payment again. We will not stay at this hotel again, there were many choices in the price range, and the noise, car wait, and mystery charges were a big turn-off.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet...although it may not exist - also do not stay here with a car

Starting with the front desk where the world's most congenial, accommodating, welcoming, good natured, well-informed and efficient hospitality agent you will find worldwide - Tyler Layton - you are treated as if this was a five-star hotel in a city like, perhaps, Paris. Any hotel that has such an individual as a first contact recognizes the real goal of hospitality, making the guests feel special and meeting their needs. I have traveled extensively throughout the States and Europe and this young man heads my list of hotel representatives, truly! The Abri - along with such first rate people as Mr. Layton, is pristine clean, quiet (although it is right there in the very heart of Union Square - best location ever!), and very well maintained - it is elegant inside and feels brand new, decorated with elan and style. Every single request is met with instant accommodation, as the staff - including housekeepers, maintenance, etc. is congenial and completely tuned in to you feeling like a treasured guest. The beds feature top quality, thick mattresses, a good night's sleep is guaranteed and the rooms, while small, have real charm and everything you could possibly need - next best thing to being at home including plush bathrobes and top quality amenities. The location is barely one block from the start of the cable cars, one block from the BART, about a block or so from Market Street, and surrounded by the whole Union Square shopping and dining experience. The restaurant in the hotel has a great vibe, delicious food and a great list of menu offerings and a very cheerful, friendly and accommodating staff. I arrived late on a Saturday night and left very, very early on a Monday morning and yet, my one full day in San Francisco was completely restorative and truly enhanced by the good fortune to have found Hotel Abri. I cannot recommend it enough and I extend special thanks to Tyler Layton for exemplifying customer service and true old fashioned hospitality - I was really impressed by him - he sets the tone for this hotel!.
