I was staying on the 41st floor, my room had great views. But besides the views this hotel has great service, extremely helpful staff, who welcomed me back quite a few times. Room services is impeccable, breakfast is great!

We stayed here for our anniversary, and were blown away by the top-notch service and location. Centrally located near Union Square, we could walk to great restaurants and shopping. Our room had a fabulous view of the Bay, and the bed was oh-so-comfy. The front desk, concierge, restaurant staff- everyone!- knows how to treat each guest like a valued client. While some hotels try to use the "cool" approach to impress guests, the Mandarin Oriental knows that the timeless classic, attentive service, is the superior way to win clients.
We will definitely be back!

The location is perfect. Had a suite. They were doing some renovations in the lobby on my last stay so that was a bit funky, but when they are done it will be fabulous. The views are awesome. My fiance would have thought it romantic if not for the fact every morning I insisted we walk all over the city. My fault, not the hotel. I'm sure breakfast in bed is awesome. Loved the location. One day we walked to breakfast at the Buena Vista, took the trolley back to the hotel, and on the way back you must stop at the trolley car museum. It is free and you can see how the cables run under the streets. A short distance from the hotel.

Great location in the midst of the downtown and CBD action - good to walk or catch public transport all over the city.
My room (Floor 39) was quite small but very cozy and had the most commanding view of the Bay - from my desk I could see from Alcatraz to the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, etc .... fantastic (the Bay Bridge was just out of the panorama) .. and districts like North Beach, Nob Hill, etc. were all clearly visible.
I was expecting the decor to be a little more contemporary I have to say - not that it was bad .. just a little dowdy for my taste! (It looks more NOW on the website!)
As you would expect being a Mandarin Oriental, the service was exemplary! Anything you wanted got sorted, quickly and efficiently and anything you wanted to know was soon discovered. Staff were very friendly and the whole vibe of the place is relaxed as well as being seriously 'together'.
Room service food was a little disappointing (and all the cutlery and plates, etc. are that old fashioned pseudo-posh style) .. the food itself was 'not all that'.
Internet was $15 for 24 hours but absolutely blisteringly super-fast ... which was brilliant. Using the wire, I fired up my Airport Express and could get all five of my devices online for the one payment!
The lobby bar is fantastic - great vibe, service and excellent range of delicious drinks.
At around $540 a night ... the fabulous view came at a price .. but it was worth it!!! I would stay there again, but I would also explore other hotels in the Downtown area as well.

Room Tip: Room Price varies - the Bay view rooms are more expensive than the City view ones - all depends what...

Mandarin Oriental is a GEM that sits right in the middle of busy Sansome Street. The hotel has its own parking space, so dont worry - pull right in or have valet parking. from the front desk to the concierge - the service was excellent.
We had a room that faced the Transamerica building and waking up to this amazing view is awespiring!
The rooms have been remodeled and still retains the Mandarin trademark's classiness.
Can not go wrong with this hotel! Put your walking shoes on and the road will lead you to union square and all of what SF downtown has to offer !
Not meant for big families - they dont seem to have double beds in the room, though they gave us a roll away bed. You want affordable drinks - 7 11 is across the street !
FYI - great new downtown SF regulations - alcohol beverages can not be sold singles or in 7 11 or small convenience stores so they can regulate who's buying these drinks!
If time permits we would love to come back!

Room Tip: Ask for the room that faces the bay ! Ask not to be by the elevators ! but it doesnt matter because...

My wife and I made reservations using Tripadvisor for our anniversary last year. We loved the Union Square and Palace Hotel (High tea and Pied Piper Bar and Grill) proximity. But the room and hotel experience left much to be desired. We paid for a bay view and a deluxe room. Our view was obstructed and the room was a funky L shape that made me feel like I was sleeping in a narrow alley. Nothing about the hotel experience was above average.
