“Overall Pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

Great location just off Union Square. Decor not as sumptuous as other Taj hotels I'm sure but overall can't complain. Food was nice: breakfast and dinner (degustation) were happily enjoyed and hopefully standards will remain high at the Michelin-starred restaurant when there's such stiff competitiion about.

Room Tip: Have passport handy for ID.

As a Leading Hotel Member, I expected more from this establishment. This is my 3rd time staying at the hotel and it seems to be going downhill.

Negative: The front desk service wasn't prepared for my arrival, they didn't seem to know I was a Leaders member and asked if I've stayed before...they should already know that. I also had to confirm with them that internet was free and breakfast was included...they needed to doublecheck...When i checked out, both internet and breakfast were charged to the room so I had to speak to the manager to have them removed.

Positive: The location is absolutely perfect as it's in the heart of Union Square. The rooms are cozy and the beds are very comfortable. The furnishings could use an upgrade but they have Nespresso machines in the room which is a welcome addition.

I'd give this place one more chance, however at the rates they charge, you can get higher quality in many of the other 5 star hotels in the area.

Dear ukcurtisnish,

We are always delighted to have you stay with us and I am so sorry that this last visit was not as delightful for you. I doubly regret that your Leader’s Club membership was not immediately known when you checked in. After checking I found that the person who checked-in you in was a completely new member of our staff and simply overlooked the notation of your membership. I am so sorry for any inconvenience you may have been caused by this poor service and that you were not recognized as a repeat guest.

Because of the reservation system used by Taj Hotels, breakfast and internet charges must be backed out manually when the guest checks out. The company whose system we use has not been able to change the way this works so that when a membership number is input into the system it will automatically recognize what items are not to be charged. Again, I must apologize that the clerk was unaware of the process.

We hope to have another opportunity to restore your confidence in our hospitality and if there is anything we can do to make your stays more comfortable, please do not hesitate to let us know. We will be happy to help in any way possible. We hope we may look forward to welcoming you back the next time you plan to be in San Francisco.

Warm Regards,
Ashrafi Matcheswala

Nothing was really wrong but nothing was really exciting about the hotel either - other than its great location. Staff were very friendly and always happy to help including getting us an early check in. But the room smelt musty and not fresh, the lights didn't work properly and the room was quite dark at night. The shower has the mixer behind the glass under the rose so hard to get at and getting in and out of the shower was a bit treacherous and I wouldn't want to be an old person. Someone else had mentioned about the over tidying of the room at turn down - I agree, although nice to come back and everything is folded it did feel a bit of an invasion of privacy.

Dear MrsC32,

Please accept my sincere apologies for our not having made your stay as pleasant or comfortable as it should have been. We truly do endeavor to all our guests leaving with having had a positive experience and I am so sorry we failed in your case.

Not knowing when you were here or what room you occupied makes it difficult to respond—or to check the room to ensure the lights will work properly and there is no musty odor. We do like to follow up when we have complaints and the only way we can do that is if our guests let us know when they are here or when they complete an on-line guest comment card. It would be most helpful if you would take the time to do this.

Again, I apologize your stay was not what you had anticipated and I hope you will give us another opportunity to demonstrate our Taj hospitality.

Warm Regards,
Ashrafi Matcheswala

The hotel staff is very friendly. If you are going to do some shopping in San Francisco this is the perfect place to stay. The room was nice, clean and seemed updated. The breakfast was good, but the fruit seemed like it was previously frozen. The only draw back was that the lobby smelled a little like curry.

We have stayed at this hotel three times and each time we hope it would get better but it continues to disappoint. We have stayed at almost every Taj internationally and sadly this hotel doesnt live up to a taj at all.

The rooms are ok but not really upgraded so they give you a feel of an older hotel. They are clean but not the quality you expect from Taj.

The housekeeping is just down right rude and disrespectful - we had done a lot of shopping and had scattered wrapping paper and just the bags on the floor. When I walked in as housekeeping was cleaning the room, she told me "Here is the trash can!", I tipped her five dollars and told her to go ahead and clean the room. She still left all the wrapping paper there, that night, we called front desk and told them not to let the same lady clean our room.
The next day, we get a call from the front desk saying housekeeping is saying there is a stain on a lampshade and you will be charged $100 for it. Ummm, isnt that a coincidence but either way, we call the front desk and the general manager and eventually got the charge removed.

Overall, this is an average hotel but we wont be going back as there are better options at the same, if not better price.

The location is amazing and the door man is friendly.

Dear lovetotravel2812,

Greetings from Taj Campton Place!

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are genuinely interested in your impressions and truly always endeavor to provide the best possible experience for all our guests. I regret very much that we failed to provide that experience to you and ask that you accept my deepest apologies for our shortcomings.

I was very concerned to note about your experience with the housekeeping and the concierge. This is certainly not the way that we look after our esteemed guests. I have taken this up with the concerned individuals. I assure you that this will not be repeated for your future visits.

Thank you once again for being such a loyal supporter of the Taj Group. We hope we may look forward to welcoming you back to Taj Campton Place the next time you plan to be in San Francisco.

As we were on our honeymoon the Taj Campton Place upgrade us for free which was a wondeful gesture. We had a dual aspect room which overlooked Union Square. The rooms aren't all that big, but for a city hotel they were fine with plenty of storage and a good sized bathroom.

The location is fantastic with everything being within walking distance, although Fisherman's Wharf take about 25 minutes to walk to so wear flats.

The customer service was great, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. If you have a car with you I would recommend parking at a local car park and not using the valet service as this is very expensive. The hotel are happy to help you with this and tell you where best to go.

For a city break, you can't go wrong with this hotel.

Room Tip: The higher up you stay the better as you then have great views of the square if you stay at the fron...
