Stayed there for four nights in early November during the Hotel workers strike. Was woken up at 6 AM every day (even though we were on the 15th floor!) by striking (or locked out) workers with drums and airhorns. Luckily I am from the East Coast so was used to getting up early. Even with the strike and reduced workforce the service at the hotel was very good and did not notice a drop off which is a credit to those that were working the double shifts. THe hotel itself is a very nice hotel with a beautiful and very, very large atrium with numerous places to sit and relax, have a drink or do some work. The location is right along the Embarcadero waterfront by the Farmer's Market/Ferry Building with views of the Bay Bridge. Pier 39 and Fisherman's wharf are a nice walk/street car ride to the north while the Union Square shopping district is just a mile or less up market street (again can be walked in 20 minutes or you can take the subway, bus or trolley car). China Town is close too. We did not have a car (parking is $45 per day) and never needed one with plentiful modes of transportation. The rooms are very nice and large for hotel rooms with a unique angle to them. Food choices are plentiful for all meals and there is a Walgreens right across the street for those items you might have left at home.
The big drawbacks are noise from the city is heard throughout the night even with ear plugs and the fan on. The walls are pretty thin as we could always hear the neighbors TV until late at night. Finally, be careful with the wet bars. Everytime you open it even to look in it you get charged. I kept my own water and milk in there and had $80 worth of refreshment charges on my bill that I had to fight to get taken off.
