“Very nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2008

Stayed at the Hyatt for a conference in the hotel. We checked in very late and were upgraded to a suite on the 17th floor for $219. The view was incredible, looking SE out over the bay and the Bay Bridge. The room was very nice -- three TV's, including one in the bathroom mirror(!)
The bed was comfortable with a nice selection of pillows. Minibar was way overpriced, as was the breakfast options in the hotel. There is a Starbucks across the street and a Peet's about a block away, so go there instead. Many breakfast options around. The service in the hotel was very nice. Everyone was friendly. The concierges were very helpful in navigating the BART on a couple excursions around the area.
The hotel is a nice walk (just less than a mile) from Union Square, the big shopping district and from SFMOMA, which is a great museum. We walked Market Street several times.

The hotel is RIGHT next to the California St Cable Car line and the Embarcadero entrance to MUNI and BART. Access to all these transportation options could not have been easier or closer.

Parking at the hotel is very expensive. We paid $57 for one night until we could offload our rental car the next morning.

We stayed at this hotel for one night for a wedding at the Ferry Building, and we loved our experience. Our room actually had a balcony overlooking the Ferry Building. Finding a room with a balcony in SF can be hard, so we were very pleased. We ordered room service for breakfast, and it was great as well. I would suggest staying here while in San Francisco.

Ive stayed at this property three times now in the past 3 months. Each time I have been impressed by the professionalism and helpfulness of the front desk staff. The last trip I had my mother with me for her first visit to San Francisco. I required two queen beds and wanted a BALCONY room so that we could enjoy our own private space to sit outdoors and enjoy views of the bay. The staff were very helpful in getting me this room - apparently they only have a few balcony rooms with two beds. I highly recommend the balcony rooms. THey are completely updated with flat screen tvs, the baths are updated - bot totally redone but very adequate. The highlight for us was the newly opened REgency Club space which is situated in the space that was previously occupied by the revolving restaurant. While it no longer revolves, it offers fantastic panorama views of the city and bay and excellent service, food, and beverage morning and night. THe staff here go above and beyond and the hotel has succeeded in creating a very special haven from a stressful day. By far the best Club room I've visited within the Hyatt chains.

  • Liked — Location - steps away from streetcars and Ferry Building. Fabulous Regency Club, Views, Balconies
  • Disliked — Cavernous lobby leaves you a little cold, elevators slightly on slow side

The Hyatt Regency San Francisco is much better than I expected after reading the previous reviews. I am always surprised at the negative comments such as "average room" or "old hotel". If you reserve a regular room, you get just that, a regular room. If you want something extra, reserve a suite. Yes, it was built over 30 years ago, but there are some advantages to that. The common areas are much larger than other hotels and there is a huge atrium. When you are inside the atrium, it is so quiet and peaceful that it is hard to tell that the hustle and bustle of the city is just outside the door.

The reality is that this is a Hyatt is like every other large Hyatt hotel in a big city. It is big, clean, staff are friendly and accommodating. Although the regular rooms are average in size, like all Hyatts I know, they are clean, well decorated and comfortable.

As previously stated, the hotel is walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf (1 mile?) Union Square, (3/4 mile) and of course BART, buses and cable cars stop right out the front door.

All things are relative of course depending on your expectations, and how much you pay for the room. But if you dont have Champagne tastes and a beer budget, you will be happy with this hotel.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency for five nights May 16. We booked on Priceline and were given a beautiful room on the 17th floor.
Staff were excellent, professional, helpful and polite.

This Hotel is in a excellent location close to SF Bay and Trolley Cars with the BART station adjacent to the Hotel.

Stayed at this Hotel after a terrible stay as the Westin in Market Street SF,and the differences are huge.

This is a modern construction which does NOT shake, rattle and roll when its windy in SF.

The Hotel's restaurants are great and breakfast is excellent with wonderful staff especially reception and dining room.

Its location allows a wonderful walk to most attractions or catch the Bart.

TIP.....catch the BART to SF Airport from the Hotel!!!

Check my other reviews, I generally only write when I love a hotel, but we had problems with the regency from the beginning. When we checked in, despite being GUARANTEED a KING size bed we were given a room with a full size bed (Yes FULL not queen). When I went down to request a different room I was told that there wasn't anything available that night but the manager would call me the following morning. Well no call, and when I asked that morning they said the manager would call, well he never did. On top of that our air conditioning didn't work, and it was hot in San Francisco that weekend, it took them two days to fix it. However, the hotel has a beautiful lobby, and was in relatively central location.
