“Great location, beautiful views, dated rooms, and noise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

I was quite pleased with my stay at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. We stayed on the 12th floor with a beautiful view of the Bay Bridge and its new LED light show. The room itself was comfortable and functional, but nothing spectacular, with some tears in the carpet and slight damage to the furniture.

As everyone has already said, the location is fantastic for the Financial District, but also for much of the city. The BART and MUNI stops right in front of the hotel. The Ferry Building across the plaza, and SOMA is a short walk away.

The only downside was the noise. There was an ever in the atrium, and I could hear what was going on from the 12th floor. The street noise was an issue too - the passing streetcars, street musicians, and screaming crazy people.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. The rooms just need better insulation from the noise in the atrium and street.

A former visitor to this hotel thoroughly recommended it for my first visit o San Francisco. So glad I took his advice. Upgraded to a Bay View room with balcony and Regency Club & had a fabulous room on the top floor (17) and amazing views. Loved the extra security and enjoyed the Regency Club with my daughter for breakfast & dinner. The balcony was great for views and overlooking the Bay Area. Enjoyed the location and being in walking distance to the various piers and transportation. Great first stay in this beautiful city. Close to everything. Friendly staff, easy check in and great lobby bar with beautiful atrium.

Dear AmandaC3,

Thank you for your review. Sounds like you and your daughter enjoyed the amenities offered at the Regency Club Lounge and the beautiful bay view from your room. I must agree with you the Bay Bridge is amazing especially with the LED lights to celebrate its anniversary! Our convenient location is definitely ideal for exploring San Francisco. Your business is much appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future!

Warm regards,
Tiffany

Let me start by saying (with no apologies) that I am a real hotel snob..I want a little luxury when I go on vacation and I don't mind paying for it..What do I expect? A clean room/ bathroom, friendly helpful staff and value for the money I have paid.
The Hyatt Regency outdid themselves on all levels!
Booked a 3 night Bay View room for this years Valentine Weekend.I entered the Hotels online lottery for a discounted regency Club rate. On arrival we were given a room on the 16th Floor (fabulous views) and we qualified for the Club discount..result! The room was spotlessly clean and fresh..the bathroom was gleaming!
The regency club's views, food and drink were all outstanding.
Housekeeping and turndown services were friendly and highly efficient. We did not hear any noise or disturbance throughout our stay which was surprising as I know there were a couple of conferences booked into the hotel, there were no long waits at any of the elevators either!
Here is an example of the Hyatt Regency's excellent customer service...
I noticed that the bathtub was taking a long time to drain so I put a call in to the front desk..spoke with a nice young gentleman who said it would be fixed ASAP.Same problem occurred the next day so I phoned again and spoke to a lovely young lady ( Tiffany or Natalie? Night shift personnel) who apologized profusely whilst offering complimentary Champagne for our trouble..I thanked her for her offer, refused the champagne and she then told me she would credit my Hyatt rewards card with 5000 points.
We arrived back from our sightseeing trip the next day to find a fully functional bathtub, a chilled bottle of good quality champagne, some lovely hors d'oeuvres and a 5000 point credit to our account.
Our stay at the Hyatt Regency was very special and I want to thank all of the hotel staff for their commitment and dedication!

We stayed here for a convention. This was our 2nd visit to this hotel and we like the location of this property. Our rooms had balconies, equaling a nice view of the bay. Unfortunately, due to the atrium, we heard a lot of noise from the lobby (so ask for a floor higher than the 5th).
Beds are firm with plenty of feather pillows.
Bathrooms are small, but the water pressure/temperature makes up for it.
Front desk personnel are courteous, but not ‘approachable’. At both check-in and checkout we felt as though we were disturbing them.
The housekeepers were excellent.
The valet parking is overpriced ($61 per night), but they were quick and efficient.
Overall a pleasant stay. I would recommend this hotel – if you're looking for a hotel in the financial district or you want to stay at a Hyatt property.

Treated our ten year old grandson as a birthday gift! Staying on the 16th floor, facing the amazing Bay Bridge light show (it will be going on for the next 2 years) will be an experience we will always remember! Friendly front desk and Regency Cub folks. Very clean and updated room. Shower room a tad small but Exercise room huge and filled with great equipment! Very lovely to have breakfast, afternoon snacks, very hearty evening offerings and deserts...as well as great coffees all day long at the Regency Club. Many families up there, as well as business people. Makes sence economically! Great location by the Ferry Building. A San Francisco icon:). Great fun!

The hotel gave us a room on sixth floor with a balcony looking over the Embarcadero to the Ferry Building and the bay. The room was clean, comfortable and well furnished.
The Eclipse restaurant in the atrium served a limited but nice menu of food and drink all day and the service is good.
The concierge service was terrific. Being first timers we had lots of questions about how to find places and what to do and all were answered helpfully. For info the hotel is next to The Embarcadero Center shopping mall, about a mile along Market street to Westfield Shops and Union Square and about a mile from Pier 33 where the Alcatraz ferry is based.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in early March. We were very disappointed in the hotel, the room was dated and dirty. The cleaner had left a beer bottle filled with cigarette butts on the balcony and the room had not been vacuum cleaned properly, when we pointed this out to the check in desk they said it would be sorted but the beer bottle was never taken away. The food is pretty good but quite expensive. Gym equipment was some of the best I've come across in hotels. Location is great and having access to the ferry building is useful. I think for the price there are many better options in San Fran.
