“Excellent business hotel, nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

This is a great business hotel, probably not a place I would stay as a tourist however. When I checked in, Ted at reception, gave me the sweetest possible room, suite 1740 which was really tremendous. The service is truly great as the staff fight through the enormity of the place to create a degree of personalization. The atrium is spectacular. The location in the revitalized Embarcadero is excellent for business in the Financical District and for tourism along the piers. Great views of the Bay Bridge from some rooms. the only thing I would worry about is using it as a tourism hotel, as it is huge, frequently filled with convenioneers and not as personalized as some of the boutique choices

Room Tip: Suites are awesome if you can score one

Dear George Y,

Thank you for your review! Great to hear you enjoyed your accommodation and the convenient location of our hotel. I must agree with you Embarcadero has become a destination and a great place to explore in San Francisco! We may have some large conventions from time to time and fill with many guests but our experienced staffs always give their undivided attention to all of our guests. Your business is truly appreciated and we hope to see you come back for both business and pleasure in the future!

Sincerely yours,
Tiffany

This hotel is just across the street from the ferry building, which makes it perfect for those arriving by ferry; we parked our car in Vallejo and took the pleasant 1-hour ferry across the bay for a 3-night stay, which avoided very high parking fees. The lobby is typically Hyatt, vast and beautiful; the service at the front desk was pleasant and we were able to check in early. Our room on the 15th floor was large and quiet by city standards, just an OK city view ($40 more for a bay view), the window looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages, and when the sun hit the window, you could barely see out. The bathtub- shower-toilet area was very cramped, but the shower water pressure great. It's also at the end of the California St. cable car line, permiting easy access to Nob Hill, and with a transfer, on to Fisherman's Wharf. We were disappointed to find that the restaurant that used to be on the top floor is no longer there, but there are many fine restaurants within walking distance and the restaurant in the lobby had an excellent happy hour menu.

Room Tip: Get a high floor and, if possible, negotiate for a room facing the bay. The breaded Boston Chowder...

I love this hotel. I can't come to San Francisco without staying at this hotel.

Beautiful inside and out. The rooms are gorgeous.

I love the views and the decor.....Great location.

Beautiful atrium....great area to walk around outside, I love the Embarcadero.

They closed the Equinox restaurant on the top floor. Too bad, I loved that restaurant.

Room Tip: High floor, close to the elevator. The view of the atrium is gorgeous.

Within walking distance of great restaurants and shops, and a great view of the San Francisco bay, the Hyatt Regency was a great experience. Room 1256, although pricey, is worth it. It's a suite with a balcony that overlooks the bay. A relaxing spa bath in the evening was a relaxing way to end the day. Breakfast was very good, and the staff seems eager to please. The bed was okay and the sofa in the setting room was comfortable. I will definitely stay here again.

Despite a not so great stay a few months ago, we returned and are glad we did. From the time a gracious Andy checked us in to a quick and accurate check out, we had a great stay. We told Andy about the problems with our room last time ( small, dark) and he checked us into a very pleasant room on the 16th floor with a balcony with a view of the bay. Housekeeping arrived shortly after for turn down and left the delicious (and usually quite expensive) TCHO chocolates on our pillow. The Regency Club was a treat as usual with great snacks and breakfast buffet. We chose to have our breakfast at Eclipse, the ground floor restaurant. Roni, our server was a delight. When my wife said she had a cappuccino earlier, Roni said "ours are better, let me get you one" and she was right! The food was excellent. Hyatt is putting effort into locally sourcing food and better preparation, and it shows. My only complaint is the $61 per day parking fee. When will this insanity end? At this rate, before long, the parking will cost as much as the room!

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay with us. It is always nice to hear compliments on our staffs and I will be sure to share your comment with them! Parking is quite a challenge and expensive in the city and we would recommend taking public transportation while you are sightseeing in the city. If you want to venture outside of San Francisco for a day or two, there is a rental car kiosk located on the ground level of our hotel for your convenience. We truly appreciate your business and hope to see you again soon!

Warm regards,
Tiffany

The quality was fine, the bed was ok and the pillows were comfortable; and it has a nice lobby/atrium (which all Hyatt's I've been to seem to have) with hanging Christmas tree lights that looked impressive. But it was just too expensive with zero free perks or amenities. For business travel downtown, assuming you're not paying for it, it's fine. If you have to pay for it yourself, choose something else.
Staff wasn't particularly sharp. There was a problem with the bill that took almost an hour to resolve. It was a mistake on their part and I had to speak with multiple staff members, then finally it was resolved by a manager.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the bay. Staring at buildings across the street...not much of a view.

Stayed here last weekend while in town for my anniversary. The people at check in were very polite. The location was good. Across the street from the Ferry Bldg (went to the farmer's mkt on Saturday), next to the BART stn and within walking distance to Union Square. The room was large and quiet. The bed was comfortable and the towels were nice too. Elevators were relatively quick. The valet parking was expensive so I self-parked in the garage next door and saved about $30/day. Would stay here again.
