“A reasonable option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

We'd probably prefer to give the hotel 3.5 stars rather than 3 as it was a mixed bag. The night we arrived (a Saturday) the welcome at check in was far from overwhelming and the following morning the guy sitting at the concierge desk seemed rather disinterested in providing any assistance. The room we got at the front of the building was large, clean & modern although it didn't have much character. However, the hotel is well positioned in terms of proximity to Fisherman's Wharf and the attractions down there & the hotel restaurant/bar was friendly and provided very good value food. We had breakfast there each day and two dinners and were very happy with it. The person who handled our check out was particularly friendly and patient. If we went back to San Fran we'd probably stay in the Union Square area but for a first visit Fisherman's Wharf makes sense.

Room Tip: Corner Deluxe Rooms at the front of building are probably the nicest

The rooms are excellent and well looked after. comfy bed and all the amenities you will need. Breakfast is excellent with a good selection onthe buffet or an a la carte menu available. Allthe staff throughout the hotel are very helpful ad friendly. I will deff use this hotel again

Wished it had a view, as I'm sure most other Fisherman's Wharf hotels and guests do. Other than that, very nice. Clean, modern, and close to the Fisherman's Wharf touristy areas. Walking distance to many local attractions as well as to public transportation like the famous cable-cars and trolleys.

A male concierge manager apparently was having an off day wen we approached the desk for some info. He was training a new concierge staffer, and he was less than enthusiastic about helping us. I'm sure this is not the norm, but it stuck in our minds. The following day, on that note, the new concierge staffer was eager and attentive to our needs.

Their coffeeshop was quite nice and quick, as was their restaurant "Knuckles." Both check-in and check-out were smooth and easy. Their bellman was exemplary and friendly. We did not visit their 24-hour gym, nor similar facilities.

All in all, we really liked the Hyatt-F-W, though we may look into hotels in different parts of town, when next we visit, in order to compare. I'm rating them with an "excellent" based on the abundance of positives which far outweighed the somewhat insignificant negatives.

I have never give bad review except for this one.Stay from 23/01 till today. Upon check in, was charge extra USD50 x 4 nights for incidental charge; was not inform by front desk staff and only realize when I received a text from credit card company.
Though we have several luggages, no bell boys or any staff offer their service to assist.
Buffet breakfast was pathetic, though my stay comes with daily breakfast we only eat on the 1st day.
Concierge is not helpful and do not know his job well. Check with him on the Go San Francisco Card and without checking , his answer is I don't know they have this pass. Truly a disgrace to Hyatt's reputable name for good services.
Well, just a walk to a sightseeing tour counter at pier41 and I manage to get a 3 days Go San Francisco Pass for 30 attractions visit that literally save me a few hundreds for our family of 4.
Overall, with the price you are willing to pay here. Choose somewhere else, many options.
The service that this particular hotel provide really send a negative impression to guest who are 1st timer to Hyatt's hotel chain. Hyatt should seriously look at renewing the next contract.

I stay at this hotel often for work, as this is where our company always puts us. I find the rooms to be very comfortable and quiet. The beds are high quality and I sleep well here. The customer service is great and nothing is ever a hassle for the staff. I like the location, perfect for restaurants, shopping, but quieter and nicer than union square. The area is very safe and I feel comfortable walking around at any time, even late at night. I have stayed in several other 4-star hotels in San Francisco, but I prefer the Hyatt.

Overall we were pleased with the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf. The bell desk were very helpful but the hotel seemed a bit outdated and had a very motel type feeling about it. The wifi was not free in the rooms which drives me insane, why do we have to pay for it in this day and age? The Fishermans Wharf area was overly touristy and we had to travel out of the area to get to decent restaurants. I felt the beds could have been updated too - the mattress in our room definitely needed replacing. Then again you get what you pay for and it was a good deal on Priceline.

We've just returned from a 5 night stay and we were extremely impressed with the hotel. As always there has been many reviews so I'd just like to make some practical points that helped me.
Our room was modern, well furnished, had a great TV system & was unusually big for a major a city centre hotel. We found it extremely good value having used a UK price comparison site to make the booking.
When I was first looking into our holiday I had planned to collect a hire car from the airport, on researching the subject I decided not to & for us it was the right decision. Parking at the Hyatt is expensive as it is everywhere else in the city. However, the location of the hotel and public transport made a car redundant for our stay. Fishermans Wharf is obviously close, the pier for Alcatraz is also a short stroll away. We also walked to the Ferry Building and Union Square although this might be pushing it on a hot day. This isn't a problem, there is a tram stop just a couple of blocks away from the Hyatt that goes straight to Union Square & a bus that runs from Fishermans Wharf too.
We took advantage of happy hour at the adjoining Knuckles bar on most days, its a lovely bar with great staff. They also serve food, we didn't sample it but used the cafe across the road for breakfast (excellent value, as Brits we weren't prepared for such massive portions!).
The only thing holding my rating back from 5/5 is the charge for WiFi in the rooms (its free in the lobby). We stayed at 6 hotels on our trip and this was the only one without 100% free Wi-Fi.
Having said that - our stay at The Hyatt (& indeed San Francisco as a whole) was fantastic - thanks to all the staff on a great job.
