“Nice hotel - but expensive add-ons”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013 via mobile

We spent 2 nights here on our road trip on the west coast. Nice rooms and pretty good location, although a bit far from the main sights downtown and at the waterfront. But of you are up for a nice walk it is no problem.
We didn't like that we had to spend 40 USD per day for parking + taxes. Room also didn't include breakfast - which is why I warn about add-ons. Nothing was included. At least not in our booking. So be aware of that.
Getting into the hotel area was a bit tricky - it really matters which direction you arrive from. It is best to have the hotel on your right, because there is a divider in the road and with all the trafic u-turns are not easy.

Thank you for staying with us on your road trip. It’s great that the rooms and location met with your approval. You make some valid points about add-on expenses. Comparable parking rates in San Francisco are equally expensive. However, we do offer parking, breakfast, and cable car packages that would help offset the total charge in the future.

Simple straight forward hotel which is well located to see and reach the sights. Easy walking to Chinatown and Union Square and access to California Street Cable Car at the end of the block means you can easily go anywhere. We got a 3 day city travel pass which we made good use of; excellent value.
Good small restaurants nearby, as well as Chinatown eateries and an excellent Chinese run diner a block away for good value breakfast.
Surprisingly, 18 floors up traffic noise at night could be quite loud.
One evening a private function, which was originally confined to private rooms, dominated the public areas and particularly the bar. Some individuals were the worse for drink which made it unpleasant for other hotel users.

You listed so many of the great reasons why our hotel is in a great location. It's a challenge not to go out to eat every day while working or staying here! Thank you for sharing memories from your visit.

We are a family of four travelling for pleasure in San Francisco. Although basically a nice Holiday Inn, we were disappointed in the location. If you like to walk around the city, this hotel borders some less desirable areas that we felt uncomfortable walking through. The hotel itself is well maintained, nicely decorated and has several welcome features that we were looking for such as roll-away beds for rent ($20 was a little pricey though) and complimentary refrigerators. We actually had the 2 beds plus a cot in the room and found it to have plenty of space. Our view was nice but we were not facing the bay or anything particularly impressive. We stayed late in the city and were allowed to keep our luggage in a side room until 4:00 pm which was very helpful. All in all, this was a nice enough hotel, but during an earlier stay we had reservations at the Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf and liked the convenient location there much better.

We appreciate your comments. I was happy to hear that you enjoyed the amenities in the room, and that it fit your family comfortably. Certainly Fisherman's Wharf is a great location for waterfront sightseeing. I'm partial to our location for its central location to so many of San Francisco's attractions. Thank you for choosing our hotel this time.

We were there for a meeting and soon realized we could walk to Chinatown and Union Square. And it's right next to the end of the California Street Cable Car. There are lots of small restaurants within a couple of blocks, plus a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's if you want to put food in your refrigerator.

Room Tip: Some of the corner rooms have views in two directions.

We couldn't agree more on the great location. The two markets you mentioned are definitely our favorites too. You are welcome here anytime.

First impression was that the hotel was situated further from the bay area than we expected. In fact doorstep transport links are excellent with frequent bus service up/down Van Ness and a cable car taking you down towards the ferry terminal. A one/two day travel pass can be purchased from the hotel shop. That said, walking isn't as bad as it seems. It's twenty minutes back from Chinatown in spite of the hills (the cable cars can be full and walking can be better than waiting). It's typically Holiday Inn. Our room was a bit smaller than others we'd stayed in, but cleanliness and comfort were good, as was the street view. Staff were friendly and helpful. There's a decent sized bar area where food seemed to be served til quite late, though we didn't eat there. Across the street and up a bit there's a really good food store and we ate in a good little Portuguese restaurant, round the corner and down a bit. Served its purpose well.

Although the cable cars are both fun to ride and extremely close to the hotel, a good walk helps after all the great food in this city! Thank you for sharing the positive experience with our staff. We hope to see you again.

I am giving this a 4 because of the room, #2501. Not because of the amenities nor because it was decorated very nicely. In fact it was mediocre and quite common, BUT... this is a fantastic ROOM WITH A VIEW. Two of the walls we're all window looking over the city and out onto the bay. We could see Coit Tower, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate & beyond. Just amazing! It was quite breathtaking. We received free parking and breakfast as well. The service was top notch and employees boasted how they really enjoyed working for their new manager. I would have given it a 5, but for the price, it needs a design/decorating update. A side note, they also have pillow service so if you request something different they will gladly bring it to you.

Room Tip: Room #2501 has a AMAZING VIEW of the Bay & Bridge!

Nice hotel on a good location for exploring San Francisco. It is a typical chain hotel so nothing out of the ordinary. The California Street Cable Car is just around the corner which make it easy to get downtown.

Good breakfast buffet although it is not included in the price.
