“Great location and lovely San Francisco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

I've always liked Kimpton hotels and this one fit the bill as all the others have. Located in the Embarcadero this hotel is located to the streetcars, Bart and the ferry terminal with all of its of restaurants and food shops. The room was lovely and cozy. My only complaint was it faced an alley instead of the Bay Bridge as we had hoped. Hotel staff were exceedingly pleasant and well informed about the city. Room rates were pretty much in line with San Francisco.

This is a remodeled historic building right on the Embarcadero. The rooms small but artfully arranged and the view of the Bay and the light show on the Bay Bridge is gorgeous. The lobby and "great room" used for morning coffee and the 5:00 p.m. Wine Hour are a nice mix of historic architecture and modern decor. And the staff! Wow. Special thanks to Francisco, Luis, Kyle and Neil and the women at the desk. We had our dog with us and everyone went out of their way to make us and our pet comfortable.

It's worth the money to go for a Bay View room.

I'll take this hotel over a larger chain hotel any time.

I've had nothing but awesome experiences with the Kimpton hotels group, and this is no exception. The location of the hotel is a little out of the way and not easily noticeable on some side streets, but such are most hotels in San Francisco. It's still adjacent to the harbor and Ferry Building, and rooms on the harbor side have excellent bay bridge views (at night, LED light patterns display on the bridge cables).
The best part is guest service and amenities. The front desk staff are very friendly, and even have a remote that they use to automatically open the front doors for you when you leave! There's a complimentary wine hour (not bargain wine- this stuff is at least $10-$15/bottle) for all guests, and we had a selection of two reds + two whites. Though the guest rooms are small, they are functional, with everything you could really need in a hotel room in San Francisco (assuming you're spending a good portion of time out in the city), with nice showerheads and TV channel options.
If you join their Kimpton InTouch program (you literally have to *want* to pay more if you don't, since it's free, easy, and they don't spam), you'll also get $10 to spend at the mini-bar, and free WiFi, which is otherwise $12.99 - and it's fast!
As an Inner Circle member, they also provided us with a small box of chocolates and a full bottle of wine purchased from the Ferry Building- retailing for $19.99, which was an excellent touch.
They had an Easter Egg hunt going on - max one find per room - which we turned in and were offered a split of wine, half off parking, or a free movie. I'm not sure if this was upgraded due to my Inner Circle status, since the couple next to us just got a free water bottle for their egg, but either way it was a cute, fun addition to the stay.
Definitely will stay here again, and at many other Kimpton hotels.

Room Tip: the bay view side is excellent! crystal clear views of the ferry building and bay bridge

This hotel is nice but the rooms are small. Some are even tiny. The staff are friendly and usually helpful. The prices can be way too high when they are just 80% full. However, it is located in Embarcadero which is one of my favorite areas of San Francisco. There are several excellent restaurants with in walking distance and BART it also just right there.

I stayed here for a work event in the area, and was pleasantly surprised. The price and location was great as it is located directly across from a great shopping location. The only complaint from the group we were traveling with was the size of the rooms, and I must admit, there isn't much room to move around. If you are looking to just relax in the room and not see the city, this probably isn't for you; however, if you just need a nice clean place to crash after some tourism, it fits the bill nicely.

Hi there Cressmans! Thank you so much for your kind words about our staff and property! Glad you got to do some shopping at the Ferry Building nearby, too! As you say, some of our rooms are on the smaller side, but I appreciate your feedback nonetheless. We'll definitely see you again in the future! Thanks, Melinda.

The Harbor Court is less funky than some Kimpton properties. Actually a converted historical Y, the public area used for morning coffee and 5pm happy hour is a real plus for working or socializing. The hotel's location is arguably much better than the upscale counterparts which are further from the waterfront. Muni and Bart is a short block away. Our King room was long and skinny, actually more square feet than one would expect in an older building. Two things to be considered: 1) the king bed provides little clearance from the wall on either side of the bed. So there is a significant danger that you can stub a toe on the under bed storage unit. We placed a pillow on the far corners of the bed frame after twice hurting ourselves. The under bed storage provides two big drawers making this hazard a case of "no good deed going unpunished," and 2) a "no view" room is really NO VIEW as it is on a deep air shaft area with windows from the adjacent building looking into the room. Be forewarned on both issues.

Room Tip: Spring for the view room for a never ending show of the busy port, the Bay Bridge, and the changing...

Oh no, Mike! I'm so sorry to hear about your toes! I'm wincing over here, I know how bad a stubbed toe can feel. We'll be sure to look into your feedback, thank you for letting us know about the potentials here. And yet I'm so happy to hear you had a nice stay with us despite this. We'd be glad to have you again, sans the stubbed toes! Thanks, Melinda.

Staying here on business (my company has an office in the vicinity) for three nights with room booked well in advance. Arrived on Saturday afternoon to friendly reception, decent location and pleasant reception area. So far so good - if you are planning to photograph the exterior and stroll through the lounge then it's all ok.

The room is awful - so small there is little room to open a suitcase other than on the bed. Even worse, there are no cupboards for clothes and nowhere to store a suitcase other than by the bed which then makes it impossible to access the bedside light. Turning on the main light sithes on a desk lamp since their is no room light.

The elevator is next door and the view from the window is the cooling plant. I can understand why they offer wine tasting each evening since you need alcohol to sleep through the racket from the cooling plant.

On arrival, the sun was on the windows with the blinds raised and aircon off so the room was hot and uncomfortable. I stay in plenty of hotels as a business traveller so am used to a variable standards but if this room was free they would be overcharging. Avoid at all costs.

Room Tip: Book elsewhere to be on the safe side
