“Grand Hyatt San Francisco Grand for Families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

After a week of college tours mixed with hiking in the great outdoors we were ready for some luxury, hotel service and good food. The location for the Grand Hyatt is perfect for seeing Chinatown, The Cable Car Museum, Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, great shopping, and restaurants of all types. I would describe our rooms and the overall vibe in the hotel as urban elegance - cool, hip but not overstated. The gym is huge with gorgeous views of the City. The highlights of our stay were the concierge desk - everyone was helpful, knowledgeable and one concierge offers a free coffee walk around the block to share what she knows about the area. I did the coffee walk and found the info and anecdotes interesting and her enthusiasm entertaining. The other highlight is the lounge access. The view alone is worth the extra fee but the breakfast and appetizers (tuna roll, tamales) were great too. My teens loved it and felt save venturing out on their own in the area. My husband and I loved the close proximity to everything we wanted to do and see.

DISCLOSURE: I publish TravelingMom.com and the cost of the room and lounge access were provided to me as part of a press package, however, the opinions are my own.

Room Tip: If you have lounge access the room won't matter because the views from the lounge are spectacula...

Had everything that we needed. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Location near the shops, but a long way from Fisherman's Wharf area (further than we thought from the maps) and cabs were relatively expensive. We had no problems with this hotel at all.

I was walked from the Hyatt Regency San Francisco to the Grand Hyatt San Francisco, and I wish I would have staied longer, because the service was 5 stars. They ensured I had a quiet room, with a king sized bed (which was unnecessary), and I had probably the best view of my life of San Francisco. The concierge was very helpful, he tried to ensure I could stay there the remainder of my stay, even though it was not possible, and he managed to get me tickets to Alcatraz, which is a very difficult thing for a tourist.
I would defitinely come back to this property. The Hyatt Grand San Francisco lives up to the Hyatt mission of providing authentic hospitality!

Stayed four nights on a business trip. Staff reasonably helpful at checkin and checkout, breakfast and bar staff very pleasant and happy to help. Not the quietest of spots and traffic noise fairly noticeable on the 11th floor. Rooms clean and well maintained. Not cheap but also a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Try for a room facing Union Square as it might be quieter than the street facing room I got.

Nice hotel, excellent view! We had a balcony room with a view of the bay. Really nice. The location was great, we walked up and down the piers all day stopping in for a bite here or a drink there. Lots to see including the America's cup, way cool! The service was very good, exceptional even. I'd definatly stay there again.

Room Tip: get the balcony room!

This was my second stay at this Hyatt and it was first rate. The rooms have been newly renovated and have a slick, modern almost Scandinavian feel with light woods and earth tones. The hotel staff tries very hard to make each guest feel special. I had a King room on a high floor with a great view of downtown as well as water views of the Bay between buildings. Lovely, especially at night. As a frequent guest, I had access to the Club room and it was a very nice perk, offering breakfast and evening appetizers/drinks. Most rooms now feature a walk-in shower. If you need a tub, be sure to ask specifically for a room so equipped. The location just one block from Union Square is perfect for work or pleasure. The cable car on Powell is just 2 blocks and the BART & MUNI are just 3 blocks away on Market. Ask for a high floor for the best views.

Room Tip: High floors have the best views.

We are a family of four, with two boys, ages 10 and 12. We stayed at the hotel on 8/21- 8/24

The hotel is in a great location. Although, while not the quietest of areas (Union Square and after all, SF is a big city) our room (2102) was quiet and well appointed.

The staff was very attentive and made you feel welcome.

The hotel has gone through a complete renovation so our room seemed brand new. Cool looking room, with electric shades, cool lighting and furniture. My kids liked the fact that you didn't need to slide your key into the lock to open it..just needed to put your key card next to the "plate" on the door. The bathroom is stylish with a great sink. One strange item though - the door to the bathroom is a sliding, frosted glass door - but does not have a lock!!??. This was OK for us since our kids are older but if you are traveling with younger kids, believe me, a lock is desired (or maybe we aren't that hip or we couldn't figure out how to lock the door - probably both!)

The lobby is sleek and the registration desk is unlike most hotels - it's more like a "registration area" where the staff have cool tables with their laptops and use those to check you in. Also, in the AM, the lobby has a section where they serve coffee, pastries and fruit and is a nice added feature (they charge for this but there is a coffee maker in the room, if desired) Also, there is a Starbucks directly across the street - one of 483 in the surrounding blocks!! Being by Union Square, many choices for food and shopping. Our bellman told us of a Walgreens in the Marriott a block away which had a decent grocery section so we got some snacks etc there to store in small in-room fridge. One other nice feature - directly next to the ice machine was a filtered water dispenser (like a Poland Spring water cooler). Nice!

Room was a bit small but the beds (two full size not queens) were very comfortable.

All in all, great place to stay in the city for a few days.
