“Another Joie de Vivre gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

This is a lovely small hotel in a great location just a few blocks from Union Square. The rooms are comfortable but small, typical for SF boutique hotels. The staff is fabulous, very accommodating and knowledgeable of the San Francisco area. Parking prices are high like all hotels in the area, but somewhat less than other properties we've stayed in nearby. I always recommend travelers leave their cars at home when visiting SF because the area transportation is excellent and this particular hotel is centrally located. My only complaint is that the bed in our room, a queen, was too small for my husband and me. Next time we will ask for a king or two queens. The afternoon wine reception is very nice and the wine is quite good. I also like having coffee available both in the room and on the mezzanine level. There is a cute rooftop walking track with benches for sitting and enjoying the outdoors and they welcomed my small dog without a mandatory cleaning fee (just an agreement that there would be additional charges if my dog created a mess.) I will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Unless you are traveling alone, ask for a king bed. Also, the rooms on Sutter St. can be a bit nois...

This is a boutique style hotel located in the financial district and close to Chinatown and union square. It is nicely decorated and is clean. The service is also very good and efficient. Taking its location into account, it is good value. Parking is also offered for $39 a night, although we came during Labour day weekend when there was a deal and parking was free for some of the nights we stayed, which was a bonus.
There is also a fitness centre and walking/ running area. This is relatively basic but has everything you need for a simple workout. There is no restaurant, but the hotel has some affiliation with a sushi restaurant next door. We did not go there, as it was fairly pricey for what appeared to be on offer, but the hotel's location means there are plenty of options within 2 minutes walk away. We would recommend the little coffee shop next door called Bread and Cocoa which we went to for breakfast on a few occassions - the London Fog tea is actually pretty good as are their oatmeals and omelettes. The hotel does offer tea/coffee before 9am on the first floor by the lifts and also wine and nibbles (comprising of popcorn/ crisps) in the evenings which we enjoyed.

Our top tip for staying here is if you are driving, make sure you enquire about room rates which include parking, especially if you are staying off-peak (like we were) as these may be cheaper than paying for parking separately ($39 per night).
Another tip is pay attention to the one way system. When we first got here, it took us AGES to drive and stop outside the hotel. We recommend anyone coming from the south, go up Kearney St, go past the hotel because you can't stop, take a right onto Bush and a right onto Montgomery and then right onto Sutter which will take you outside the hotel.

Rooms are small, but if you ever stay in other cities, such as London or New York (e.g. Radission and Hyatt) the rooms are comparative for city hotels where you don't want to pay top dollar in a central location. The green colour of the wall paper would not have been our personal choice, but it was pleasant. We were happy with the room - it was not big, but had a king bed, a walk in closet with all the mod cons and a clean bathroom with good toiletries.

We would recommend staying here. If you have time, you can walk to Little Italy for dinner in the evenings. There is a french restaurant called Cafe de la Presse round the corner which we went to for dinner and was pleasant. There are also pretty good dim sum places to go to in China Town (where they still have the old fashioned trollies long since discarded in Hong Kong) so there are plenty of food options nearby.

Stayed here for the first few days of September. The location was great, was close to the bart stop when coming in from the airport and short walk to Union Square to jump on the cable cars which take you to all the touristy stuff.

The hotel was nicely done, everything new and shiny and made to look pretty. In my experience of American hotel rooms though I did find it quite small. Both the room and the bathroom were much smaller than I expected. However I wouldn’t go so far to say cramped or anything like that. Just don’t do in expecting a Vegas style suite!

5:30pm is wine hour, down in the lobby you can get complimentary glasses or white or red – that sold me!

Situated just around the corner from union square, the hotel is perfect for shopping and sight-seeing. Upon arrival the reception staff could not have been more helpful which makes a change from recent experiences in the UK.

The room was extremely comfortable and complete with big tv, mini bar/snacks and bath robes.

Daily happy hour with free wine and snacks is a great bonus.

Highly recommended.

The Galleria Park Hotel is in a great location in San Francisco, but what will make me return in the graciousness of the staff, the beautifully appointed rooms, and the "family" feel of events such as the free wine happy hour in the lobby each evening. I also know that the management is a local "good citizen" in that they support local non-profit organizations by donating gift certificates for raffles and other fundraising efforts. Kudos all around to the Galleria Park!

Hotel is great and the location is excellent. Very short walk to Union Square ,China Town, Embarcadero, SOMA,etc...10 Minute walk to North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf, etc....I've stayed at a joie de vivre hotel in the city before and it was also great ( hotel tomo) but this property is in a better location & is classier. The room was awesome and I read they're remodeling in the next year so I imagine it will be even better. Great decor and nice furniture with very comfortable beds/bedding. the Tall ceilings were also great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the city.

I have stayed at the Galleria Park Hotel many times and find it consistently good - an excellent place to stay. It is only 2 blocks from the Montgomery BART station and as many to the Streetcars. About 4 blocks to Union Square and heart of shopping. A short walk to the Ferry Building and all that it offers. Chinatown is only 4 blocks away. If you're a runner and prefer flat ground to hills, this is the place to stay. The staff has been there a long time, a good sign and are always accommodating. I always sleep soundly at this hotel. The beds are comfortable. All of the rooms I've stayed in have a nice cushion chair to sit in besides a desk chair. I will stay here again.
