“Feel like a millionaire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Our stay at the hotel couldn't have been better. It's an old building, so you may hear noisy water pipes and the heavy footsteps of someone upstairs, but it doesn't matter because the rest of the experience is so good. This hotel gets the basics right, such as bed comfort (great linen, firm bed), working TV (HD, and free DVDs at the desk), clean bathroom etc, and it gets the extras right too, such as fantastic buffet breakfast, evening wine tasting and newspaper delivery. You can also get a free ride into the city from the hotel's driver on weekdays.

Our shower could have been more powerful, but again, it didn't overshadow the fact that this is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at. Another reviewer has mentioned not staying in the room next to the 'lounge' area, but we were OK with it, having quick access to the front desk, free tea and coffee and a relaxing environment to catch up with the day's newspapers. Yes, it was sometimes strange passing large groups of people chit-chatting next to our front door, but once the door was closed, we couldn't hear anybody.

We stayed a whole week and enjoyed returning to the hotel after spending our days out and about. It was always reassuring to know that, at the top of the hill, we would be staying in a homely, safe and friendly environment.

We would like to mention in particular the attitude of the people who work at the hotel, from the friendly room staff to the guys at the front desk and the people who work behind the scenes. Everyone was so accommodating, making us feel very special. We especially would like to thank the hotel for helping me find a birthday cake and a bottle of Champagne for my partner, and for helping us find a rental car to fulfil a dream of driving down the coast with the top down and the radio playing! We wouldn't hesitate to stay at Hotel Drisco again when we eventually return to San Francisco.

Dear Guest,

I appreciate your taking the time to write such a thoughtful review.

The Hotel Drisco is indeed an unique historic property. We have gone to great lengths to create an elegant but at the same time comfortable and understated retreat within our 1903 Edwardian. As other reviewers have mentioned, the slight creaks in the floorboards and other subtle effects of age add a timeless charm to the experience.

I look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Kind Regards,

My husband and I stayed here for four nights during the first stop of our honeymoon and we were beyond impressed. Complimentary champagne was provided the first two nights of our stay. The complimentary amenities really make this hotel great value for the money. We loved the complimentary breakfast each morning. The sheep's milk yogurt and granola was a perfect start to the day and my husband loved the various pastries. Hotel staff prepare coffee made to order (we had cappuccino's to go each morning). In the late afternoon complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres is served. We were only able to enjoy this once, as most days we were busy exploring the city, but the food and wines were terrific. The king size bed was super comfortable and the sheets and towels were completely luxurious. The location of the hotel is away from all the typical tourist action in a quiet, upscale neighbourhood. We enjoyed the respite from all the hustle and bustle and walking through the pacific heights neighbourhood is such a treat (beautiful mansions). Plus, walking the hills of San Francisco helped us burn off all the delicious food we were eating! We would stay here again without a doubt. Highly recommend! This hotel really sets the bar for quality and service.

Dear Guest,

I really appreciate your mentioning how all of the complimentary amenities we provide added up to a great value for you -- that's precisely our goal. The extremely high quality and the sheer number of complimentary amenities is unmatched at any other hotel In San Francisco, and few in the world for that matter.

I'm so glad you chose to spend your honeymoon with us!

Kind Regards,

Service was exquisite - particularly finding parking spaces in the area around the drisco. But what stood out most was the honesty of its staff. My wife left two valuable rings upon checkout. We were emailed within three hours asking if we had left the rings in our room. The rings were picked up by a local relative shortly thereafter. Can you imagine that happening at most other hotels anywhere!

Stayed at the Drisco for 1 night with the family doing a staycation in San Francisco. Was a great experience and the staff was superb. Good location for us and we walked down to dinner. We liked this hotel as much as the Fairmont Heritage place.

Dear Guest,

I'm glad your staycation was a success! And I'm also pleased that you liked the Drisco as much as the Fairmont Heritage Place -- that's a great hotel too. Different from us, but a fine establishment!

Thanks for your review.

My fiancee and I stayed here for a few nights after we got engaged in Napa. The staff helped take away much of the pressure of planning a perfect week. They made us dinner reservations based on our preferences and arranged for champagne and chocolates to be waiting for us as we first checked in and unpacked.

The neighborhood is awesome, too. The hotel is perched on top of Pacific Heights, which you can look one way and see the bay and then turn around and admire the downtown.

Must stay. Great San Francisco experience.

This August, for the umpteenth time we stayed at the hotel. Yes, it is the best but it is even beyond that.

Once more, we were impressed by the kindness, courtesy and constant helpfulness of the staff. Whatever the hotel's mission statement is, the entire staff certainly meets or exceed the goals. They remain the very best we've ever encountered, and reflect so favorably on management.

Recommendations by the desk for restaurants were spot on. Clearly, they know the territory and you can rely upon their guidance.

Okay, what do we really want next time we stay? Simply this: move in, be pampered. Be with our San Francisco family.

Yes, you got it: we cannot wait to return to the hotel and another experience that is beyond the best.
