“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We stay at the Hotel Tomo most of the times that we visit SF. It is well located in Japan Town, not far from many night spots and not far from Davies Symphony Hall and the Opera House. We stay at the Tomo also because there always is parking on the street--just read the signs to be sure that you can park for the length of time you desire. The hotel itself is quiet and clean, not a luxury hotel but quite adequate.

Recently stayed here in June with my wife and son. We arrived after midnight and check in was quick and easy. We were given a room on the eight floor. Great nights sleep as the room was so quiet and the beds comfy. Had breakfast in hotel and it was okay. No frills, just OK. We were impressed by the Japan town as a whole due to the location and how safe the area was. A short walk to Filmore for great restaurants and only three miles to Fisherman's Wharf. I can fully recommend this hotel as a great place to stay for a visit in San Fean. We will be returning!

Room Tip: We loved the eight floor for very interesting views.

Nice and clean room. Good place for the value. From the price point, you know this isn't a luxury property. It was a typical average priced hotel - the room was average size, big enough for two adults and two teens. It had a frig. Towels were fluffy. It was quiet. Housekeeping did a great job every day. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly.

Even though it may be considered a bit away from the typical tourist locations, we found it to be a great location. We parked our car at the Japantown Center lot for $23 a day, and left it there for the entire 3 days. The lot seemed very secure.

We used public transportation while we were there. We took the bus (Line 2 and 3), which stops across the street. From there we could connect with other transportation, the street car and cable car.

From the hotel, it was an easy walk to Safeway for groceries and to Fillmore street for cafes. I felt very safe walking alone during the day (I wasn't out at night). Also, lots of places to eat in Japantown, of course.

Great place to stay!

Room Tip: Our 8th floor room was quiet.

I stayed here for one night with friends for a show at the filmore. Easy walk to the venue. Only setback is expedia listed them as pet friendly, and on my way there I called just to double check and they apparently don't allow dogs, so that was a little inconvenient but not the hotels fault.

Rooms were a good size, and had cool decor, our room was a honeycomb theme.

They have paid parking in the garage or you can park on the street.

We're so glad to have welcomed you as our guest and apologetic for any miscommunications offered by your online travel agency. We aim to be entirely forthright regarding our offerings and unmatched in our hospitality, and we're so glad that the bulk of your experience was an enjoyable one. Nice clean room though I ended up stuck in a handicapped room that was by the restaurant (which gets loud at dinner). The smells didn't seem to enter our room though. Area seems nice, would re-book in the future.

Room Tip: Handicapped rooms are by the restaurant and ours had a bad view the the courtyard.

After spending some hours trawling Tripadvisor reviews, I chose this place for myself and 2 grown-up kids for a 4 night stay in SF. We all really liked our room on 8th floor, which was quiet and had an open view. The beds were super-comfortable and and all had a good nights sleep. Kids liked the quirky decor. Public transport not right on the doorstep unless the no 2/3 bus is what you want but this wasn't a big deal. We had a hired car a couple of nights and parking WAS a problem. Ended up several blocks away and had to move it before the morning due to 6am street cleaning(on a Sunday)! Didn't want to pay the expensive $29 per night for hotel parking but was very close to having to use it!

The 1st floor restaurant is certainly convenient for breakfast but we did not enjoy eating there- no atmosphere - and looked much like a cafeteria with formica table tops and terrible decor. In the evening, on one occasion we could not get a seat due to the popular shabu-shabu meals being served and it was unbearably noisy and cramped. I would recommend you look further afield if you're not a fan of Japanese food. I also objected to having service/tip automatically added to the bill. This should be discretionary, based on service and most places do NOT do this.

On the whole though, it was a good place to stay and very reasonably priced compared to other SF hotels closer to town centre.

Thanks for being our guest and for taking the opportunity to reach out with this experience of your visit. We're glad to have welcomed you and to hear that the experience was an overall enjoyable one. We can certainly appreciate those frustrations associated with city parking, though we do work hard to ensure convenience at a competitive rate. We'd love the chance to welcome you back and to further assist in this regard, and we hope that you'll think of us again the next time you're headed this way.

We had a wonderful stay in a new area ,for us, which is off the tourist path. Fantastic shopping and dinning in surrounding areas, all within walking distance. The rooms were exceptionally clean and look forward to our next stay there.
