“Nice stay but poor acoustics”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

On the up side: good value, spacious room, interesting decoration (will be challenged by some), convenient breakfast at a separate location on the same block, free internet, helpful staff.
On the down side: could hear the neighbors upstairs pounding, chest drawers have a serious problem (poor conception - just won't open/close smoothly), no radio-alarm clock.

We usually opt for bed and breakfast places not chain hotels, but we needed to attend an event in the South of Market area so the location of this place seemed perfect. Despite its association with Best Western this hotel is quirky and charming--each hotel has a distinctive decor associated with a legendary San Francisco figure. The rooms are much nicer than the on-line pictures suggest. They were clean with very comfortable beds, high-end linens and flat screen tvs. We had a room toward the back which was quiet ,if a bit dark. If you faced on the street it might be noisy.
The neighborhood is "in transition" so families should be prepared to encounter panhandling street people--no danger but perhaps a bit offputting.
The hotel offers some nice perks--a free breakfast at a restaurant down the street and use of the pool/sports facilities of the main Best Western across the street.

This was our first time to San Francisco. This hotel is a great location and we found getting around really easy; With buses and trams are not far. We stayed here for 3 nights and we enjoyed my time here that we stayed again on our way home. The staff were all polite and helpful in directing us where to go. The rooms are great! Very comfortable for one or more people. Very clean.
As another reviewer mentioned, seedy neighborhood, but relatively safe. We did not have any problems while we stayed here.
There was no noise that kept us up at night, we both got good night sleeps.
Having free internet access and breakfast was a great plus for us as well. The cafe is on the corner and is great.

I liked this place in many respects -- comfortable and moderately priced room, close to Folsom street and all it has to offer. But trying to gon online, which was essential for work, was near to impossible. I spent hours (quite literally two hours) trying to get a connection. Finally did, but it didn't last. Problem occurred with my MacBook Pro, my iPhone, and my iPad (which never connected). Big issue, I think, is this hotel and its sister hotels nearby used Lodgenet, a very crappy internet service (which also offers the most incomprehensible and difficult to navigate TV service possible).

I stayed here four nights and used it as a base to explore San Francisco.
This hotel is located a few blocks from the main road that leads to downtown, with the main tourist sights and shopping area. Though convenient during daytime, the area tends to get a little seedy at night, though I did not experience any problems myself. The hotel has a distinct style but only from the outside. Inside there is nothing special about it though.
My room was spacious and clean, with everything in working order. I guess I was lucky, as my room faced the courtyard so I did not hear any street noise. Breakfast, served in the nearby Cafe Moda (with a voucher provided by the hotel), was good and you could add items at your own wish, paying a surplus. Hotel staff was helpful and guests can use an internet PC in the lobby for free.
I'd say that overall the price/quality ratio was fair and it's a good base to explore downtown San Francisco.
Just one thing: I found out by chance that the hotel (or the staff?) has a big commission on any tour it books for its guests. So you can either request a discount or book yourself directly at the tour operator or via the internet.

Room Tip: Try to get to room facing the courtyard and not the street, as it makes a big difference in noise.

We chose this hotel for a lower priced stay during a conference at Moscone Convention center. It was about 7 blocks away, and kind of a seedy neighborhood, but relatively safe. The rooms were clean, comfortable bed, fairly quiet and interesting decor (writers theme). Breakfast is about 30 m down the road at the Cafe Moda. Free breakfast included coffee, small OJ, good scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon and a half waffle. Just enough for someone who is not looking for a big breakfast.

Room Tip: You want a room at the back, away from 7th street. At $139 it still seemed pricey, but the rooms wer...

I chose this hotel because it was a Best Westen Plus hotel and it was in a good location..close to downtown and good security if youre travelling alone. Front office staff were good, especially the young women working May 12 & 13/12. They were very informative on what to see and do and how to get there. It was clean and quiet and I would recommend it. ***If you really want to treat yourself there is a salon at the corner before the hotel called "Rosy Heels". My daughter and I stopped by as walk ins and had one of the best mani/pedi experiences ever! I've been to the Banff Springs Willow spa and they could take lessons from these ladies on how to treat guests! Not expensive either.

Room Tip: I always ask for "quiet room please" and the third floor facing the alley was just that.
