“Great stay in a parlour suite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2010

We traveled to San Francisco in August to visit family. We were looking for a place with enough room for us to spend time together comfortably. The parlour suite was wonderful and even better than we expected. The murphy bed was so much better than a pull out sofa and the separate bedroom had extremely comfortable beds and lots of room for luggage. The bathroom was huge with a very nice shower and jaccuzzi tub. The kitchen was complete with adequate utensils. We were on the 8th floor with a great view of San Francisco.
Street noise was a bit of an issue, however, we were so tired every night that we heard nothing after our heads hit the pillow! The noise might be a bigger problem on a lower floor.
Some people have mentioned the hotel's location as being less than desirable - it was not a problem for us. We were there five nights, over the weekend, and never felt the least bit unsafe. However, we did not head south into the Tenderloin area.
I also have to mention housekeeping - the rooms were absolutely spotless every day.
We look forward to staying at the Beresford Arms again.

This hotel is great if youre wanting something within walking distance of the popular Union Square. Its in a good location, for travelling to nearby places and public transport nearby is also great. However be weary of wandering a couple of blocks south, into the tenderloin (pretty seedy, with homeless and drugs-best to avoid).
The room was extremely clean and spacious, and the beds were also comfy.
The inclusive breakfast is rather on the average side, however there is plenty of eating places nearby if you wish to dine elsewhere.
Altogether, clean, safe, spacious hotel in a good location.

Even when you see good reviews you don't really know what you are getting in to until you are on-site. I am glad I got in to this hotel. Yes it is an old hotel but the rooms are in great shape and every member of the staff from the front desk to the maid service was extremely nice and very helpful.
It is also in great vicinity of a lot of places I wanted to go.
I am bringing my wife back here when we travel on leisure.
Would not hesitate to pick this hotel or stay here again.

We stayed in suite 707 on the corner. It had a bedroom with 2 queen beds, a living room with a murphy bed, a full kitchen, and a very large double sink counter, a jacuzzi tub and a bidet to boot. The furniture and fixtures are dated to the 80/90s but in very good shape and very clean. The beds were very comfortable with nice linens. The suites are great for a family or a girlfriend getaway. I did not see the smaller rooms with the single queen bed. The continental breakfast is just okay. You can have some fruit and a danish and a good cup of coffee to tie you over untilyou go out to breakfast. Better yet, go to the Ferry Building the day before and by some great cheese, bread and coffee and have yourselves a great breakfast in your suite with the fully equipt kitchen. Another bonus, their mini bar is stocked with a house chardonnay for $10.00. Can;t beat that.

Like the previous reviewer mentioned that this is not a $300/night hotel. However, it is a good hotel. Very close walking distance to Union Square. We even walked from Fisherman's Wharf to the hotel (40 min). Beware the hills!
The rooms were clean and were a fair size. One day, we put the sign to not be disturbed all day and the maids left a bag with clean towels by our door. Very thoughtful! There was a fridge in the room that was stocked with drinks which were reasonably priced. The TV did not have as many channels as I'd hoped. I was sick in bed and that is why I wrote this. Otherwise, TV is not a necessity when visiting San Francisco.
We stayed in two different rooms and noticed that it was a lot quieter in the room that was not facing the street. Bring ear plugs!
Breakfast consisted of pastries, muffins, croissants, fresh cut up melon, bananas and coffee and teas. Wish they had juice but there are stores around to buy some. A very good restaurant that serves breakfast and sandwiches all day is Honey Honey (2 blocks away).
There are two computers in the main lobby for use. The staff and doorman are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel. However, it is not that romantic for a couple if you are looking for that. More like an older hotel which has been maintained very well.

Our family of 6 vacationed in San Francisco last week and we stayed at the Beresford Arms. We stayed in their Parlor Suite which was ample room for the 6 of us...two beds and a Murphy bed. It is an older hotel, but it is kept up very well. The staff was very helpful. We rented a car and the valet service was impeccable ($24/ night)..... Always on time. They never expected a tip, but I gladly gave it. The nightly wine and cheese was very nice to come home to after a full day of the sites. The hotel reminds me of the quaint hotels of the French Quarter (the nice ones) in New Orleans. It is not a luxury hotel like the others down the street, but it doesn't pretend to be. It is what it is. An older, very well kept hotel with very good service. Very nice architectural elements in the lobby.

This part of my review is in response to the unflattering reviews of the Beresford Arms that I have read on the Trip advisor:

Vacationers that expect a gourmet breakfast or mints on their pillows at night need to go somewhere else and pay $300+/ night. San Francisco is a colorful town which has great sites, extreme hills, and the occasional peculiar personalities walking the streets. The sirens at night and the indigents populating the city is a fact of city life. You will find this no matter where in San Francisco you stay.....Union Square, The Tenderloin, China Town, North Beach.........but probably not Nob Hill. The homeless can't afford the lease rates on the park benches. :) If these aspects of city life bothers you, then you need to go to Disney Land or any of the all-inclusive resorts that populate the vacation seen. One more note..........the door-man at the Sir Francis Drake was placing a bet with his bookie when we pasted by the hotel on Thursday night. Gotta love it. I tried to get in on the action but the bookie wouldn't take. :( Only kidding, I really just walked by.

Stayed here for 3 nights last week. We had a family suite, 2 queen beds with a living/dining area that had a murphys bed plus a small kitchen.
It was clean, spacious and quiet. At night you did hear the city noises i.e. fire trucks but isn't that expected. This was a good location to walk to a lot of places in SF. I first wanted to stay in Fishermans wharf glad I didn't I like Union Sq much better.
Would definitely stay here again.
