Hotel and staff were fabulous. Hotel is centrally located to get anywhere in the city. My only word of caution, don't stay in a room surrounding the Dirty Habit Lounge if you plan to be sleeping before midnight.

Stayed March 2015, traveled on business

The Palomar is an above average property that stands out due to the staff. Accessible from BART and an easy walk to Union Square and the Ferry Building it was the front desk/bell staff and concierge that really set this property above other places we have stayed in San Francisco

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors tend to be much quieter

Green Features: Well thought out enviro program without being too over the top

We recently spent five nights at this OK downtown hotel. The rooms were spotless but small (to be expected). On the plus side was the extremely helpful staff (Jennifer the Concierge was awesome) and the comfy beds. On the "minus" side was the extremely small bar where one could not get in without a reservation, the fact that one of the elevators was broken during half our visit and the small lobby. All in all, however, it was comparable to other downtown San Francisco boutique hotels, but with a nice and helpful staff.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room away from the street (facing the courtyard was great)

Green Features: Fine, I thought that they were clear. San Franciscans are a bit neurotic about this and this place was no ecception. An ash tray out front would have been helpful

The hotel is in a great spot to take advantage of the Westfield Mall a short walk away. The Hotel has great views of the street life below. Good hotel for more the adult traveler or family, not as kid friendly. The staff was nice and friendly and willing to assist you whenever they can.

I spent weeks trying to pick out the perfect hotel in San Francisco and I couldn't seem to pull the trigger. There were a handful of great hotels in great locations that all seemed to have the right characteristics. After reading through the reviews for the 100th time, I decided on the Kimpton Palomar. I'm so glad that I did. This was our first stay at a Kimpton hotel, and it won't be the last. The hotel was well decorated and very clean. The room was on the small side, but very well done and we didn't care too much because we were only in it to sleep. The staff was great, and the free wine happy hour was a nice touch as well. The hotel was in a great location as it allowed us to walk just about everywhere we wanted to go or it was a quick hike to a trolley station.

The only complaint I could come up with was the noise. If you are a light sleeper and ended up in the wrong room I could see it being an issue. There is noise around the building due to the vibrant nature of the neighborhood, and the hotel has an outdoor lounge that can get loud as it is a stop for young locales. However, the windows do a pretty good job of canceling the out the noise.

If you are debating staying here, do it. I can't think you'd regret it.

Room Tip: Higher floors will put you further from any street or lounge noise

Thanks for the positive praise of the team and hotel. You'll also be happy to hear that I have been meeting with contractors for additional sound proof measures to be taken around our windows. Typically noise isn't a challenge, yet we are trying to get ahead of it, as this part of town is taking off....actually, this part of town has become the new epicenter of San Francisco. New cafes, restaurants, boutique shops, galleries are popping up frequently and blending nicely with the joys of the Historic Cable cars just steps away and the many other San Francisco treats!

Stayed in a Suite on the 5th floor right across from the hotel bar. It could get noisy but we still were able to sleep. The staff that work in the lobby were awesome, helpful and friendly. WIne hour was always good but the lobby is small, which, can make for intimate conversations with anyone. The concierge(all of them)was super helpful too. Be sure to ask them about day trips. We did several, Napa & Sonoma, Redwoods with pickup on-time at our hotel. The location is great for walking to anywhere including the Piers or to Cable cars. This Kimpton experience has helped redeem them in the eyes of my husband who had a bad experience in NYC at Eventi. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was very good and not too pricey. The only thing I would recommend is more information be provided by the Hotel staff regarding the excellent outside patio on the 5th Floor. We didn't realize it was there until the last 2 days of our trip.
