“Popular Palomar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

The hotel lobby was under construction while we stayed, so I'm sure it is now spectacular. The hotel location is great, whether staying for business or to get the most of tourist options in San Francisco. Multiple transportation options throughout the city have convenient stops just outside the front door, including the trolley system. The room was very comfortable and an average size. The staff was helpful during this time of construction and the doorman was very personable.

Thanks for staying with us. Please come back soon. Our new restaurant is open and the addition of the new outdoor patio and dining area has been a huge hit!

This hotel is all about location. It's been recently renovated (lobby area, bar and restaurant). The bar area now includes an outdoor seating area which gets quite busy and as such they are a bit militant about where you can sit if you are on your own - not everyone there is part of a company group traveling; however I did move to a warmer more comfortable seating area and they didn't feel the need to move me - phew!
The rooms are OK, basic and fairly small (although I am reliably informed they were quite big for a hotel in this area). The beds were comfortable. There was a little bit of noise late at night (we were above the restaurant and could hear them packing up at the end of the night) but it did not really disturb us much.
The staff were very friendly and were quick to resolve any issues (we had a couple of things happen but they were dealt with and so did not become a problem). The 'happy hour' in the lobby is a nice idea and is well attended which for someone coming in to check in might be a little annoying (maybe not if you immediately get a free glass of wine as you check in!). I also took advantage of their free bicycle hire to make my own way around the city - they provide a helmet and lock for the bike and whilst we are not talking about a 'Tour de France' style of cycle, it was great fun and a nice extra to offer guests *(it's a first come first served basis but I didn't have an issue in the morning to get a bicycle).
I personally believe the gym should be renovated maybe into a shoe closet (because it is about the right size, maybe a bit small for this). They do offer membership to a gym 4 blocks away and whilst it's not a fortune ($15 a day from memory) I felt this wasn't worth it (San Fran has great cycleways and areas for jogging etc as well as free outdoor 'crossfit' style parks/equipment around the city).
We didn't eat in the restaurant as there are so many restaurants in the area that are very highly recommended (just check out TripAdvisor!)
Overall the location makes this hotel an excellent choice for business and pleasure and I certainly give it a thumbs up!

Thanks for the Thumbs Up and positive praise of the hotel, team, and location. We are incredibly excited about our new restaurant. The addition of the brand new patio/outdoor dining space has been a hit among our hotel guests and neighbors. Come back and see us soon.

Don't let the small lobby fool you, this property is great. Nestled in the heart of all the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, the Palomar provides a lovely escape above the masses on Market street.
We checked in during the complementary evening wine hour, where an offering of red and white wine as well as bubbly were being generously poured. At check in we received a generous upgrade to a deluxe suite, which is a room I highly recommend.
The suite itself was huge, with two large rooms and wonderful windows in both. One room had a nice living room set, desk, and flat screen tv. The other served as the bedroom with a huge king sized bed. The bathroom itself was the size of a small hotel room, complete with a colossal jetted bathtub. But the unexpected surprise of a fish tank with a goldfish to keep us company was an especially nice treat during our brief stay.
For food, the property just opened a newly renovated restaurant. Unfortunately, we were there on a Sunday evening, so we missed out on dinner and cocktails, as it was closed. We did enjoy a nice breakfast there though the following morning. The restaurant has a very nice looking courtyard patio which would make for the perfect spot for libations at the end of a day exploring the city.
The thing that really makes this hotel stand out from the crowd is it's exceptional service. The staff is amazing, and go above and beyond at every opportunity to really make you feel special.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel in San Francisco.

The staff is great, and I love 'em! Glad you enjoyed their service and personalities as well. Please come back soon and try our new restaurant - Dirty Habit - .... it is fantastic. And the secret that has gotten out already is that you have to order the wings.. trust me and the first 1000 guests who have been here...you'll love them.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Palomar-San Francisco. Location is great. Remodeled lobby looked beautiful and charming. But, the crowning touch is the staff…they are WONDERFUL! Everyone is there to make sure your stay is everything it can be. Arrived just in time on Saturday for the wine tasting, such a treat. I had informed Josh that it was our anniversary and when we arrived at our room there was beautiful fresh flowers, champagne and a fruit tray…..now how can you beat surprises like that. I wish I could remember the name of every staff member, but Richard, Alex and Josh were just outstanding. Back to basics, the room was very quiet and the bed oh so comfortable. I will always stay at this hotel when I return to San Francisco

Room Tip: we stayed on the 6th floor and all was quite. Bed was so comfortable

The lobby is finished and the restaurant/bar on the 5th floor is now open. These were major issues in reviews from the last few months, so we were delighted to find them fully resolved when we arrived. Location is great for shopping, dining and exploring San Francisco. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Rooms are well appointed. It's a Kimpton - they make you feel welcome.

The vibe just keeps getting better and I'm glad you were able to be part of it. Our new restaurant, lobby and the addition of the outdoor patio has been exciting. Unwinding on the patio after a day of shopping, sightseeing or business is just brilliant. Our building surrounds the patio which makes it particularly private, and also well protected from any fog or wind....which of course is not an issue this week as we are having 90degree weather here. The team and I hope to see you soon!

I live in San Francisco and spent one night here as a "stay-cation" to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The staff were incredible, super friendly and helpful! They really made the experience. I mentioned that it would be a birthday celebration when I made the reservation and not only did they give us a great room with a view of Market St, but the icing on the cake was what we found waiting for us when we returned from our night out. There was a personalized birthday card from the manager along with a complimentary bottle of wine, a chocolate bar, and a cheese and cracker plate! Kudos to all the staff who made our night! I really appreciate your extra effort!

JP, Clayton and Brian--you made this trip amazing! My Grandmother said that this was the best Birthday she has had...not bad stats considering she is 94. And my son loved Maverick, director of Pet Relations. Your entire crew was great and the hotel was a perfect mix of modern, fun and sophisticated. Just wish I had more time...
