“one of favorites in SF”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

I have stayed at dozens of SF hotels and this is one of my favorites: great location (5 minutes off Union Square and near Bart), gorgeous restaurant and beautiful lobby, and reasonable prices (the sooner you book ahead the better). I like the Japanese vibe, having lived in Japan. They offer you high-quality red or white wine when you check in; they also saved a paper for me every day. (On the first morning, someone took mine, so I asked the front desk to keep my copy down by them.)

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

My husband and I stayed for a quick 3 night weekend getaway. We stayed here several years ago in 2005 and thought we'd give it another try. The service is always fantastic here. We were greeted with a welcome glass of wine. Everyone is helpful and gracious. The location is perfect. Close to union square and trolley. We crabbed it everywhere else for cheap. Lots of great shopping too!!

The rooms are large for SF but I think they are a little rundown. The bed was great but furniture and carpet need an update. The fridge was an added bonus to keep beer cold. Rooms are equipped with robes and slippers too. We were on the 9th floor and could still hear traffic and car horns so I would request a high floor. Earplugs worked well though.
There's a Starbucks connected to hotel if you need coffee or wifi. We did have a nightcap at their bar-lounge and it was delicious!!
Overall I'd stay again because the price was great for the location. But it's not my favorite SF hotel in the area.

Just a few blocks from Union Square, the hotel is in the middle of all the action. All the shops, tourist attractions, bart station, and all the restaurants are right there. Rooms were really comfortable. It was also very quiet, but it helped that it was on the 23rd floor (away from the street). The breakfast buffet was great. They served both western style breakfast and Japanese breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: As in the case with most hotels in SF, try to get a higher room away from the street. It's SF; s...

Very plesant staff! The hotel is very clean, updated, and service is top notch! Will stay here again in the future! If club access is an option, it's a nice touch for comp. breakfast as well as a social hour with free drinks and snacks.

Hotel is nice IF you get a high floor, otherwise forget sleeping due to noise. Carpet in our room was gross...at over $300 night it was disappointing that we needed to ask to have our room moved. The location is near nice shopping but also right next to several hostels and lots of homeless people. They sleep right against this hotel. This is a one and done experience.

Dear Jude5878,

Thank you for taking the time to review the Hotel Nikko SF. I am sorry that you found your intitial room to be unacceptable and glad that your move was promptly accomodated. It is our goal to exceed guest expectations and we hope that you will give us the chance to do that in a future visit. Unfortunately homelessness is a plight that affects many cities including SF. Your comments have been referred to the Mayor’s office. We do hope that you will re-visit and continue to explore the many beautiful and historic sites the city has to offer.

Many Regards,
Marcia Striffeler

Small review: very clean hotel, stayed there two weekends ago. Checked in Saturday midnight, checked out Sunday morning. A bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Hotel in impeccable condition. RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYTHING; perfect location. Hotel front desk and concierge very knowledgeable with the city. Room was in great condition - BEST HOTEL BED I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. BEDS ARE AMAZING, PILLOWS ARE AMAZING. If you can afford it, highly recommend it. There is a Starbucks in the lobby.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014 via mobile

I booked a deluxe king room for two nights. I arrived early to drop off my luggage and attend a conference but I was offered an upgrade ($70 per day) that allowed me to check in early Friday morning (8:30 am). The upgraded room was on the Imperial floor, which requied a key card to access. The room had a great view and the bed and bathroom were both luxurious. The upgrade also provided the following: three Japanese/American brunches, two happy hours at 5 pm that featured heavy appetizer and beverage service. Other perks included spa access (steam/sauna), gym, pool and free wifi. The five meals included tip. Also, continental breakfast, newspapers and computer access were available daily on the Imperial floor.
