“Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2008

This was our first visit to San Francisco and we were unsure which area to stay in. Fishermans Wharf was just perfect. The Best Western was excellently located, about 3 blocks from the sea front and within 5 minutes walk to Pier 39.

The room was abit on the small side, but OK for a 3 night stay. The front desk staff were very friendly with a dedicated concierge desk where guests could book excursions or just get information.

The free wine and nibbles served between 5pm and 6pm were a lovely touch. At first we thought there must be a catch, but the reception area was packed every evening and it was a great place to talk to fellow travellers.

The area felt safe to walk around at night as there were lots of people about with plenty of restaurants and bars to frequent.

I would stay at this hotel again without question.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for 4 days. Our flight came in early so the room we requested wasn't ready yet. The concierge recommended a bus tour and called to see if there were seats available and booked us on the tour that was leaving in an hour. The tour was fabulous and the driver was wonderful and provided excellent information during the tour. The tour ended around 2:30 and we were dropped off back at the hotel. By this time our room was ready.

We had asked for a courtyard room as I am a very light sleeper. I had no problem at all even though everything in San Francisco was booked and there were people everywhere due to it being the start of Fleet Week. The room was extremely clean and very spacious. The carpet was a bit worn and outdated but that isn't a complaint just an observation. We found the staff to be very helpful and courteous and we had no problems at all.

We didn't participate in the wine social that occurred everyday at 5 but there were a lot of people that did as every time we went through the lobby it was packed. We did however take advantage of the free coffee and biscotti that was offered every morning in the lobby.

The hotel is in a fantastic location just a 5 minute walk from Fisherman's Wharf and no more then 10 minutes from the cable cars and other attractions. There is an Ihop one block down which we ate at a couple of times.

Our stay was a pleasant one with no complaints at all. We would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in August and couldn't fault it for what we wanted.
Great location, the concierge guy was fantastic and there is a lovely restaurant attached to the hotel that does a great breakfast!
No bar as such in the hotel but they have free wine tasting every day at 5p.m.!

We loved the Tuscan Inn! We booked a King room, but they upgraded us to a King Deluxe when we arrived. It was pretty small, so I'm sure the standard rooms are even smaller! But, for just the two of us it was perfect. The room was very nicely decorated and was obviously recently renovated. We loved it. It was very clean, had a beautiful bathroom, and was comfortable. The staff was very friendly (especially Jose!) and the wine hour is such a nice touch!! We were only able to go one day, but it was great! Held us over nicely until dinner with wine and appetizers.

If you stay here- be prepared to walk uphill to get anywhere outside of Fisherman's Wharf!! We also used the "F-line" street car to get to the Ferry building and financial district...it seemed safe, easy, and close to the hotel. We spent alot of time walking too and were able to see so much in a few days, but be prepared for the hills.

Some highlights in the San Francisco area:
-Coit Tower, Alcatraz with audio tour, Chinatown, Lombard St, Hyde-Powell Cable Car Line (standing on the outside!), Golden Gate Park are all must dos!
-Wine Country Shuttle Tour - went to Domaine Chandon, V. Sattui, Rutherford Ranch, and Andretti Wineries. It was a great day and worth the money not to have to worry about driving, plus we really enjoyed each of the wineries- all different experiences!
-Saulsalito - only had a short time here, but looked like a great area to explore art galleries, boutiques, and good food.
-Punchline Comedy Club
-Muir Woods was ok- if you've never seen the Redwoods further north in CA, you'll be satisfied...it's close enough to SF for an easy visit and the trees are still huge!! Lots of tourists and not quite the size of further up the coast, but still very pretty and we enjoyed it.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Tuscan Inn and would recommend staying there if you're looking to stay in the Fisherman's Wharf area. It was pretty quiet and a little bit removed from all the action of the Wharf and Pier 39, which was nice. We loved it!

We spent 2 nights and found the staff to be very friendly. The location is great, only 2 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. The room was nice given this is not a 5 star property so our expectations were exceeded. Overall, it was a great value and we would stay again.

First off, we booked this hotel through Priceline. We got it from Sunday to Wednesday for $135 a night, which was a great deal and I think very good value. It's certainly worth the booking price via their own website but you can find a good deal out there for it too.

The Tuscan Inn was a great place to stay. It's very close to Fisherman's Wharf, within walking distance to the Coit Tower and even Chinatown. The street cars are also only a block away. The rooms are very nice and seem recently upgraded. The beds and linens are quite nice too.

The hotel staff are really friendly. We were very impressed with both of the concierges that were working and found them extremely useful. The people at the front desk were friendly save for one girl who we found consistently rude and abrasive. (ie, I brought a five dollar bill up to the front desk and before I could say anything she said "we don't give change" and walked away). With the exception of this one bad egg, everyone was very nice.

The free wine/beer and coffee/hot chocolate/biscotti is a wonderful touch and we took full advantage of it. I would recommend making reservations at the restaurant as it quickly filled up every night and we were turned away frequently - I heard one traveller get into a heated discussion about never being able to get in for dinner.

My only recommendation would be to ask for a room that's not on the first floor, or a room with a view of the garden. The street noise was pretty bad and we were woken up a few times because of this. There were a few homeless people who would sit on the street outside and make a ton of noise throughout the night. Also, the restaurant drags their tables and chairs inside at midnight or later and then outside at 7:00am. It makes a lot of noise too - just a tip.

Anyway, we loved it at this hotel and were very happy. Last word of caution - if you're going to San Francisco, don't rent a car. Parking is expensive ($40 per night) and everything is very much within walking distance. We took a cab across town and it was $10...

Have fun!

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel on the 23rd August for 3 nights and had an enjoyable stay. It is in a great location, 5 minute walk to Fisherman 's Wharf promenade and 5 minute walk to a tram stop.

We were given a room over looking the street which proved to be noisey. The reception staff were very accommodating and said the hotel was fully booked but first thing in the morning they would move our luggage to a room over looking the courtyard. This room was alot quiter and you could also open the windows as apposed to the room on street level.

The complimentry tea and biscuits in the morning were very good and the restaurant ajoined to the hotel was very pleasant.

The hotel was clean, in a good location and we would reccommend it to other travelors.
