“Our stay at the Best Western Tuscan Inn San Francisco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

I found the staff at the Tuscan Inn to be helpful friendly and courteous. They offer an "opt out" of daily cleaning although still provide all the necessities needed for a comfortable stay. The free wine "happy hour" everyday at 5 allowed us to meet other travels in an informal and fun setting. The restaurant was also a very warm and friendly atmosphere with a good selection of reasonably priced dishes and beverages. We are going back!

For a weekend trip to San Francisco, after researching all the hotels around Fisherman's Wharf, my wife and I chose the Best Western Plus Tuscan Inn on North Point Street. The two main reasons; 1) The location is in walking distance (two short blocks) of some of the best restaurants at the Wharf and 2) They had a special that included valet parking at no additional cost. This alone saved us approximately $44 per day. The cost of the room, at $300+ per night, was high but pretty much every hotel in the area was the same or higher. So any savings you can find is awesome. When you add the mostly above average reviews on Tripadvisor and other sites we were sold.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the valet and were ushered in to the front desk, right inside the front door. The staff here is wonderfully friendly and very patient no matter what the need. As with most hotels in the area the room is rather small but not tiny. Our room was tucked away in a corner so we had no issues with noise from other rooms or from the hall. It was also very neat and clean. The only issue we had with the room is the sink area is outside the bathroom (which is normally very good) but is very small and the bathroom door opens into the area making it hard to maneuver if one person is using the sink area and another is in the bathroom. But as long as you "plan ahead" it's a non-issue.

One nice thing is the hotel hosts a complimentary wine reception every afternoon starting at 5PM, allowing guests to mingle while they try out California wines. There is also a restaurant on site, Café Pescatore. Unfortunately we did not get the chance to try it but the menu looks awesome and appears to be priced reasonably.

Overall a great hotel in the heart of the Fisherman's Wharf area. A great and friendly staff made for a highly enjoyable stay. I would highly recommend staying here and will do so again on our next trip to the area.

Room Tip: Definitely consider taking advantage of one of the Valet Parking Specials here. You get in-&-out...

This hotel was recommended by our Travelagent & after checking it on TA we decided to book. This turned out to be a great choice of hotel. We were greated by Keith on reception who was so friendly and helpful (as were all the staff we met)- this was really appreciated after a long flight from the UK. The room was facing the side road but we were not disturbed by any road noise. The room was very clean & well equiped. We ate breakfast in the restaurant which was most enjoyable. The hotel also kindly gave us a bottle of champagne as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We found the location ideal as first-time visitors & walked to lots of the attractions. We also enjoyed the evening wine tasting. All in all a great place to stay.

The Good -
Location - Very convenient to Fisherman's Wharf, all the ferries, and cable car lines

Evening Wine reception - nice to relax a enjoy a few glasses of wine and appetizers

Restaurant - has good food at fairly reasonable prices for the city

Suites - plenty of room for families, clean, comfy, nice furnishings

Concierge - very friendly and helpful

Bartender - very nice

The Bad - No microwave in room

Windows - the glass was so thin it was like all the windows were open. The amount of
street noise was just as loud as if you were on the street.

The Strange - toilet paper holder was behind the toilet and EXTREMELY hard to reach

In room menu - the lunch and dinner menu in your room was not for the hotel restaurant,
but somewhere else, had to go down and get a menu for the hotel

The Awful - The valets were by far the WORST we have EVER experienced!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, our experience with the valets really soured our stay at this hotel. For starters, there aren't enough of them to keep up with the amount of cars. When you arrive you're lucky if you can even get pulled off the street as the loading area is usually full. Then you have to wait for someone to show up, usually 5-10 min. When you finally see a valet they are very unfriendly, and always act like they're confused and flustered. They aren't the least bit helpful. They are EXTREMELY slow to bring up your car. We could usually see our car from the loading area, but couldn't get anyone to get it for us. We always waited at least 15- 20 min. to get our car. Once they even brought us the wrong car. They are more concerned about bringing up cars for people who are not there, and are still not there 20 min. later, than they are about helping the people who are standing there waiting. By the time they bring up all the cars for the people who are still not there they have the driveway blocked and we still can't get out. All of this, and we could see our car, feet from the exit, the entire time. We barely made a couple of tours on time because we were waiting for our car.
Upon completing a Best Western survey management assured us that something would be done about the valets. I sincerely hope so.

Room Tip: Might have a quieter room in the interior of the hotel.

We booked the Best Western Tuscan Inn based on Trip Advisor reviews and its moderate price range. From early check in (they stored our bags while we did bus tours) to a wine gathering each evening and free morning coffee in the lobby, BW Tuscan made us feel comfortable not only with our room, but with our decision to stay with them. We requested (and got) a quiet courtyard room; our nights were blessedly undisturbed. An unexpected extra: when you eschew housekeeping (as we often do), you're given a $5 credit per "no thanks" day, at the hotel restaurant - lunch/dinner. Just a little perk if you choose to make your own bed, etc.! *Also: discounted parking for hybrids. In all, we were more than pleased with our choice and a BIG thank you to fellow travellers who take time to share their reviews. Location was GREAT, too - near all bus tours, Wharf, etc.. Thanks!

Room Tip: Request courtyard for extra quiet - although the street on which it stands isn't overly busy.

We spent 3 nights in August 2012. Our room as small but that was to accomodate a handicap bathroom that was very large. There was no view. That said, the room was very comfortable with great wi-fi. Loved the 5-6 pm wine hour. Struck up conversations with new people from around the world. I would recommend that they know where the wines can be purchased that they are sampling though. he staff are friendly and helpful. I loved the fact that they have a daily $5 voucher for lunch or dinner if you chose not to have maid service for your room. This is spent in the resturant adjoining the hotel.

We stayed here for 4 nights in August 2012. Our room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Our room faced the inside courtyard and was very quiet. The staff were lovely, the free wine in the evenings was a nice touch. Location is excellent, 2 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. I would say it's slightly over priced (this is why we gave 4 out of 5) but all hotels in San Francisco seem to be overpriced!
