“Good location. Friendly, helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Great location. Gorgeous sheets and comfy beds. The view wasn't great but the room was nice and quiet. Great location to visit all key areas of San Francisco. Hotel had just changed ownership and provided complimentary breakfast the first day. We had to request bathrobes though. Apparently, new management won't be prodding these anymore! Oh, and you can jump on the cable car right outside the hotel and go to Fisherman's wharf, union square Etc. like I said, great location.

Room Tip: If you want a room which is quiet, just tell them and they will make sure you get one facing inner c...

Courteous and helpful staff. Clean, comfortable room with nice king bed. Very nice views from 4th floor room fronting Powell Street. Good rates for this location were available possibly due to transition to new ownership. Staff warned about noise from cable cars and traffic on lower floors fronting California and Powell, but we were pleasantly surprised how quite our 4th floor room was.

The Stanford was once an excellent 4 star hotel and a great place to stay, with outstanding staff, a superb restaurant and great food.

It is mo longer a Marriott tun hotel as it now has new owners who are trying to turn it into a budget motel - or that's what it feels like - with its help yourself buffet breakfast with paper plates and plastic cutlery!! If I wanted that from a place to stay, I'd kip in Starbucks!
A lot of good staff have been culled, including all the waiting staff in the now non-existent restaurant. There is no kitchen, so no room service, or anything pertaining to a good hotel.
The staff that remain are still excellent, but they are clearly no longer working for anyone who knows how to run a good hotel. What did the new owners run before? - a discount store?
The soul has been ripped out of this hotel.

Thank you for your comments. I appreciate your feedback of the hotel operations. As a display of guest appreciation, the Stanford Court offered free continental breakfast to all guests during the transition from Marriott. Since, the hotel restaurant and lounge, Aurea, is open daily for breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately, room service is currently not available. Thank you, again - you’re feedback helps greatly in our continuous mission to strive for a higher standard in guest services.

I reserved our room via Hotels.com, bought the valet parking package because parking is $50 a night otherwise. One review said breakfast was included: it is NOT. My only issue with our stay was I noticed there was dirty glassware in the hallway for all 3 days. The carpets and towels have seen better days, but are still adequate. The hotel is at the top of Nob Hill next to The Mark and The Fairmont- a toney address for sure. Traveling with children made the hill troublesome for weary walkers. The neighborhood is very pleasant and there are many fabulous restaurants nearby.

Nice bed, but extremely soft to the extend where you might have problems if you have problems with you back!

I have never stayed in a hotel as bad as Stanford Court, and I travel a lot both on vacation and on business! We arrived late in San Fransisco and hadn't booked a hotel. We found Standford Court on booking.com and booked it because of comfort (4 stars) and location. We just booked one night to start with, as we wanted to check out the area before we booked the last two nights. The staff in the reception was very unfriendly from the beginning, we are a very easy going family with a daughter of 14 years, we are clean, polite and humble people who normally is treated nicely where ever we arrive (this was a vacation of 3 weeks where we traveled aroud California, and stayed at appx. 10 different hotels at different ratings, this was the only hotel that we really hated and which gave San Fransisco, booking.com and the whole experience a bad experience ). The room was very small, there were no bathrobes as promised, normal windows facing a dark patio (large windows were promised). There were no wardrobes, just a rack in the bathroom, which was very small. Breakfast was selfservice with cardboard plates an platic cutlery. The parking was 50 $ per night, everybody in the restarant was rude and it took us 45 minutes to get our car from the valet parking. In spite of all this we thought we would give it a chance and stay for the next two days as location was ok. When approaching the reception we again experienced a certain unfriendly atmosphere from the receptionist (is it because we are holiday makers and not business people?), when asking if it was possible to stay two more nights she said that it would be ok, but not at he same rate as the night before as it would be much more, and we could not stay in the same room! On booking.com the same room type were these two nights avilable for a cheaper price than we booked the night before! So she told us that we could go and book the room on booking.com and that we probably would have to change rooms, but she didn't know (and obviously didn't care). Well guess what, we went to our room and booked another hotel at booking.com!

We stayed at the hotel as part of 50th birthday trip and had poor experience with service. We booked around three months ago and paid up front through Birgin Holidays. When we booked we made it clear we wanted two rooms next door or close to each other as kids in one of the rooms. When we arrived after a long trip we were told they could not find second reservation and only other rooms were on other floors. After a lot of faffing about and a long wait they finally said there was another room on the same floor but it was not ready yet - this is about 1pm. They said they would ring on cell phone when room was ready. We went to the rom that was available and then went out for the afternoon, retur ing to the room at about 5.30 - needless to say we had not received a call. When we asked at reception, they had no record of the second room and again said they could only find something four floors away. After another load of fuss, we finally were given another room - which was not ready yet even thought it was 6pm. we were tcold it would be ready in 30 mins and that they would ring us in our room. Needless to say no call was received. After about 50 mins of four ofmus hanging around in the one room, we rang reception to be told the room was ready - been though it was a long distance away. Then to cap it all, at breakfast we were told it was no longer included (it was two weeks ago when we stayed at the beginning of our trip) which is miserly. Final straw was I was checking my card account and noticed they had deducted $200 without asking. When I checked, I was told this was hotel policy 'in case we spent anything at the bar or any other incidentals'. Very nice for them to have my money on deposit earning interest in their account just in case! There isn't even a minibar in the room - just an empty fridge. Really annoying and totally disorganised and amateur approach to customer service. Won't be spending my time here in future.

Spent 1 night here on flights out of U.S. back to Australia. Lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived around 10.30 am in the morning and they were still able to get us into a room straight away, it was on the 1st floor, facing into the courtyard so we didn't have the views, but it was extremely quite, which was great, having spent 4 nights in Chicago in a beautiful hotel but very noisy with street noise, so the peace was lovely. Very clean and comfy bed and pillows and nice bathroom. Fabulous location with a stroll down to Union Square, but remember you have to come back up those big hills!, hence everyone piled in the cable cars! Breakfast was a continental style which was nice, though I did find it strange there is no restaurant within the hotel so no lunches or dinners available, or room service, but plenty of restaurants close by. Overall lovely hotel..
