“Right in the middle of it all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

The Westin San Francisco Market Street is smack in the middle of everything you might want to do in San Francisco. If you walk a couple of blocks you can catch the famous Cable Car, both lines are close by, or you can just stroll over to Chinatown. It's only a short walk. You also have the Westfield shopping center, the Yerba Buena Center for the arts is close by as are movie theaters and a fabulous amount of shopping. Or, you can just stay in the hotel and let the wonderful staff take care of you!

Perfect location but overall not a Westin property in my view. Lacks a SPG Clubroom, does not have a very good gym, no swimming pool. Entry is messy and classless. Rooms are OK even though I think shower curtains are not acceptable anno 2013.

Fabulous hotel right in the heart of San Francisco. Walking distance to tons of shops, Chinatown and Nob Hill. Wonderful customer service from staff! Highly recommend this location, especially if you are one your first trip to SF.

Room Tip: Stayed on the 28th floor in a corner room! Awesome views of the city!

The TV didn't work... 2 days to fix it. The phone didn't work. I cleaned dirt off the floor after it had been there 3 days... vacuum? They gave me a box of nuts to say "sorry we suck". I expect more from a premium brand like the Westin.

The Westin San Francisco Market Street is consistent with other Westin hotels: clean, modern, aesthetically pleasing, and well appointed. The hotel is central and convenient for both tourists as well as business travelers. The gym, while small, has treadmills, ellipticals, some free weights and a few machines. There are also walking/run routes available from the hotel if you'd rather be outside. Public transportation - above and below ground - is just a few steps away so there is no need to have a car if your trip has you in San Francisco without any planned excursions that require a car. If you are not on a Starwood Preferred Guest level wifi and a bottle of water will not be complimentary and quite expensive so plan accordingly.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors offer some spectacular views of downtown San Francisco.

We usually chose the Westin located in Union Square, however the rates were lower and the location better for our business in San Francisco this trip. We checked in an hour and a half early, no problems, and were given a room with two beds even though online we were only supposed to have one bed, so we were happy. The man at the desk was very polite and accommodating.
The lobby is small and modern and the valet service was easy to use (occasionally in SF it's very difficult to pull up in front of a hotel only to find they don't have an actual pull in driveway).
Our room was located on the 7th floor. Because I was traveling with my two daughters, I didn't mind that the view overlooked a rooftop below, but what I did mind was how incredibly noisy the elevator was. The elevator alcove was located about one door down AND across the hallway. It was so loud we thought it was very windy outside, and in the night, I thought maybe the noises were from a service elevator, for staff only perhaps, that was possibly located right next to my room, on the same side of the hallway, but I was wrong. All the way across the hall we could hear it running all night long. We left on the TV to try to drown out the noise. The walls are rather thin as well because we could clearly hear conversations outside of our door. I was really disappointed about the elevator noise and thin walls.
California Pizza Kitchen is across the street and a Starbucks is on the corner, which was convenient. Shopping was close, but because of the room noise, unless the rates are great, I'd stay at the Union Square Westin instead. Oh- and like most city hotels, the hotel offered a parking garage but the rate was different from the rate listed on their website. As for Wired and Wifi Internet, be prepared to pay, unless you are in the hotel lobby.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near elevator

BIg rooms, if you can get a deal on two queen beds, which I found on expedia, then go for it as the beds are so comfortable. Really enjoyed the bathroom, very well appointed and seems good.

I wish they had a pool, sauna and steamroom, but oh well.

The location is great, I like this part of San francisco right near BART montgomery station which can quickly (and cheaply!) take you to the airport. Get it on a deal if you can.
