We enjoyed our San Francisco city tour. Our tour guide was Jason and he was excellent. We hit all the usual trite and cliche'd places one would expect to hit on such a tour, but that is what we wanted. However, now that we have seen the city and met its people, we will find a way to spend more time on another trip. The tour starts at the ferry building with a ride on the Sausolito ferry. Jason stood out on the bow of the ferry while his colleague Eric was inside. As we rode across the bay, he pointed out the important sights as well as explained the city's history. We had lunch in Sausolito and then boarded the bus for the trip across the Golden Gate into San Francisco. One unexpected pleasure was to see the Maltese Falcon under sail. I have posted a picture of the Maltese Falcon in front of Alcatraz taken from the Golden Gate Bridge viewing area. Even though I happily took many more pictures than that, I did not see what I could add to the photo coverage of this great city. The tour included Chinatown, a couple of city parks, the Haight Ashbury district and the "Painted Ladies" and made for a very full day.
I recognize that many people do not like formal tours, but if you do, this is a good one. It is a great way to get a quick overview of what the city has to offer. More than anything else the tour made me want to come back and spend more time in the "City by the Bay".
