“The Aps were the best part”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

It was a nice spot in North Beach, pretty quiet and relaxed. The appetizers, especially the mozzarella and the fried zucchini, were the best part of the meal. The pasta dishes were good, though nothing out of this world.

“Just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Chose this restaurant based on the previous good reviews. We had the Tagliatelle and gnocchi. There was not the depth of flavor we expected in either dish. Service was okay. Maybe dinnertime is better?

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

6 of us dined. 5 different fishes ordered and all were outstanding. The pumpkin ravioli was the group favorite by far. Plate was scrubbed clean with bread afterwards. I'll definitely be back. Fit for foodies. 5 minutes wait past our reservation time.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013 via mobile

This was a nice spot in North Beach little Italy. Had the mussels, pasta and pork as we as the crab linguine all was great. Staff was nice and attentive, restrooms clean, atmosphere modern and pleasant.
Worth the visit.

“Fine lunch experience in North Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

This is really a very good choice in the Italian neighborhood of San Francisco, where you can still -- alas -- fall into the trap of the old-timey 1950s red sauce house. Not at Vicoletto. Our experience showed it to reflect the most important maxim of Italian cooking, or any cooking for that matter: get the best ingredients you can find and then stay out of their way. They will impress the diner for you if you take proper care of them.

A case in point as the mozzarella burrata imported each week from Calabria. I've had unctuous water buffalo milk mozzarella before, but this is something to wake up in the night and cry for. The contrast in textures, the deep, satisfying flavor. I would make a return trip just to have this again, served with a perfectly dressed accompaniment of arugula and grape tomatoes.

At the server's suggestion I had the black squid ink spaghetti with seafood. Again, the ingredients were impeccable -- plump mussels perfectly open with all occupants accounted for, morsels of fish not overcooked, shrimp that actually tasted of the sea instead of antibiotic-laden fish farm water, calamari that was tastt but not tough. All of this managed to be orchestrated into a single dish that found its way to table in perfect estate. Looks easy, but just try it.

My partner had a pork and pasta dish with just the right kick of hot peppers stirred in. Atmosphere is contemporary, free of cliché, service is prompt and professional, value is extremely fair. I'd go back in a minute.
