We never take a trip to SF without at least one stop at The Cinch, a mainstay on Polk for decades. Once a gay-centric neighborhood, this section of Polk is now a mixed bag of every kind of human being on this planet, and the Cinch is a favorite for those who want to have great conversation, a good game of pool, and a chance to visit with friends. Some nights will feature drag shows and every night is predominantly GLBT, but straights, celibates and martians will find it friendly and welcoming too.
You will as often find bikers, lawyers, corporate suits, teachers, plumbers, interior decorators, dancers and hair stylists all mingling at the bar. If Mike is your bartender, you’re extra-lucky because he is perhaps the best bartender (and certainly the most fun) of any in the city.
If Castro has become a sort of noveau-GLBT area, the Cinch represents some history and it's worth a stop.
