“Neighborhood hangout”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

We called the Buena Vista our home base as it was 1 block from our hotel. Great place where we enjoyed breakfast. We did stop by on a Sunday evening to eat but the kitchen was closed...Ii had not heard that for a number of years that an eating establishment was open but the kitchen closed. We had a cocktail and headed home. No problem, just would have loved a burger at the time. Very friendly staff that serves good food and good drinks. Love the nostalgia on the walls.

“31 Years Patronizing...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

The Irish Coffee is amazing. We are not drinkers but just ordered one to share to experience. I spent my 21st b'day at B.V. 31 years ago. I was there just a few days ago for lunch with family and it was a memory-jogger. I had the Rueben with fries, Friends had Tuna salad sandwich and clam chowder. All meals were terrific but the fries were generic which was new to my past experiences. My advice is pass on the fries, ask for another side, and ask for sourdough with the soup.

“LOVE, LOVE and LOVE MY IRISH COFFEE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

Used to hang there when I lived there many moons ago; the place has not changed. Still same bartender, still pouring those wonderful Irish Coffee's. It is quite a show: they line the glasses up in a row, followed by pouring each of the coffee, whiskey and whipped cream....yummy and yummy! Had a couple, quite strong, they are not stingy with the whiskey. Such a landmark and quite fun. Can meet so many nice peeps. Give it a try, you will enjoy!

“Service with a smile in a great little restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014 via mobile

Nice old place full of history with a view over the park. Great place to have lunch and Irish coffee while waiting for the trolley bus queue to reduce. I loved the mature waitresses which gave a real sense of 'American dinner'.

“An iconic drink in an iconic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

To be at Buena Vista is to be near Fisherman's Wharf, near the Ghiradelli site, and the turnaround of the cable car. It is San Francisco all over. I learned that an iconic experience in San Francisco is having an Irish coffee at Buena Vista. We were there on a Sunday night and it was absolutely packed, we could barely move. We did find a back room where there were tables. It was almost too quiet - so quiet back there and so hopping in the front. We knoshed on some potatoes covered in cheese and drank our Irish coffees. It was a very enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.
