“Meal with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Arrived 1:30 on a Sunday - table for two, seated right away, overlooking bay and Alcatraz. Excellent food, the bread alone is worth going for. Yes it's tourista but even our tour guide said it was the best place for chowder at Fisherman's wharf and he was right! Lovely meal, will go back.

“Stayed for the food...left for the service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

We arrived on a post [Christmas] holiday weekday. Knowing the time of season I expected it to be busy. That was quickly confirmed on arrival. At that time we were told by the host the wait would be 20-25 minutes for a table for 2. No biggie we waited, and went on the "tour" of the bread making operation to kill some time; I've seen better however as it was very small and not as informative as you would expect of such a historical operation.

So after 40-45 minutes the pager we were given to inform us of our table being ready never went off. I went to ask how much longer and all the host says was, "Sorry we paged you, but the pager must not have gone off so we marked you as a no show". It then took another 15 minutes for a table to be ready. Mildly disappointed at this point. Once we were finally seated it took another 5-10 minutes for our waiter to arrive. We ordered drinks and food at once to expedite the process. Drinks arrived after 10 minutes and the food another 15 minutes later; More than 2 hours at this point. The water my wife asked for came in a dirty glass so luckily for us she just decided to drink the bottled water she had in her purse. Furthermore it took the waiter more than 10 minutes to run my credit card. On a positive note, the bistro is clean well decorated. Tables are however pretty tight so it has the cozy family feel to it. I give two stars because the bread in unmatched and very good. The atrocious host, slow service and dirty glass each knocked off one point. I would not advise visiting on busy times like this. It is surprising, as we've been here, Pier 39 and Market Street locations before and all when it's both slow and busy, as on this visit. However this particular visit marks near the top of the list of bad dining experiences.

“Great as always...wish I lived closer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Had the sourdough bowl of chowder-yum! Sitting on the patio enjoying a beautiful day while dining with family I haven't seen in so long-perfect! Great deal for $8.50 lunch-filling. Watched them make sourdough turkeys( it was Thanksgiving time),turtles and a huge alligator! If you eat here you can get a free two(?) hour parking pass right near the restaurant besides. Thanks for the memories Boudin!

“Grilled cheese and hot soup - Go!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

It isn't fine-dining, it is crowded, and perhaps it's also a little tourist-y, but it's hot soup, on a cold day, in a sourdough breadbowl. Can't complain.

We went around Christmas so it was a nice festive ambiance, a pianist on the lower level, happy travelers and lots of food around. Plus some nice stuff for purchase - check out the collection of teas.
