This eatery-chain is most often a very good, classic restaurant that serves outstanding meals. Maybe it was a bad night, maybe a kitchen problem exploded and the staff was unprepared. Maybe the kitchen was understaffed. Friday night was an aberration. The service was slow. We waited 9 minutes before a server made his introduction . Sashimi Plate, ($24.99), a design of maguro, salmon(sake), Hamachi, placed on a horizontal plate, were paper-thinly sliced, served with wasabi and sea-weed, tasted like the fish was cut, plated and left unnoticed for 30 minutes on a kitchen shelf rather than a fridge. Not good, not a good value.
Fried calamari, ($12.99), was a winner. Lightly fried with a corn meal crust. Well worth eating.
Crab cake appetizer, ($14.99), another excellent suggestion. Mostly crab, (unusual in most restaurants that use starch and vegetable fillers), this shell-fish was fresh, with substance and
served in a light butter sauce. A good one. Shrimp Scampi Saute', ($26.99), was marginal. The pasta was not al-dente' and the shrimp was not saute'd. It was steamed. Crab mango avocado tower, ($17.99) was very good. Fresh on all sides. The mango was solid, avocado tasty, very good crab.
Medallions Bordeliase, ($25.99), was slightly over-cooked, none-the-less, an ok dinner. Petrale' Sole Parmesan, ($22.95) was a disaster. Julienned vegetables were heat-lamped dry and soggy.
The fish, in two pieces, one which was over-cooked, the other raw. I'm not kidding, raw! The crust of flower and cheese was saturated with oil. A culinary embarrassment.
Somebody, the manager, chef, kitchen staff, whomever fell asleep. Not reasonable for a party of 4 who dropped $324.00 for wine, drinks, dinner and tip. The server erased the charge for the Petrale'. A nice gesture but a curious illustration on the check. We were credited on a characterization called "kitchen error....under cooked". This chain has a programmed edit on their computer system. How often does a mistake of this nature occur?
Fantastic Ghiradelli location, parking on the street or discount validated in the garage below. even with the validation, the parking is nonetheless expensive. Still a nice restaurant and one worth visiting. We'll be there again, and give them another chance,
