I highly recommend Katia's.
The owner, Katia is very kind and welcoming.
The atmosphere is elegant and comfortable.
Everything I have seen or tasted has been spectacular.
I've tried the smoked salmon served with rye bread, cucumber tomato salad with a light vinaigrette, borsch ,and piroshkis. The piroshkis are golden baked pastries filled with either cabbage, mushrooms, or beef. The borsch is really delicious. Also, the beef in the stroganoff is very tender and the sauce is very good. The vareniki are little dumplings filled with potatoes and a bit of onion and served with caramelized onions and a dollup of sour cream. I also had Blinchiki, which are crepes wrapped around a delicious, savory ground beef filling. It was filling but after eating I didnt feel weighed down. I felt full of energy and happiness. The meringue pavlova looks amazing and I can't wait to try it. The only thing I regret is not coming here sooner.
This restaurant is Zagat rated, within walking distance to golden gate park at the corner of 5th and Balboa.
