“Poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon around 5pm. There were just a few customers dining at that time. Our waiter never took our drink order. We had to ask for drinks when he took our food order. There was four people in our group. One member of our group asked for a refill of water and that never happened either. I could maybe see this if they were busy but they definitely were not. There seemed to be lots of staff standing around.

“What a great little place in Little Italy.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

The food was AWSOME!! Great location. A little pricy, but we go there every year when we go to San Francisco to see a baseball game. It's part of our SF routine.

“Fun, friendly, and delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

A tour bus driver tipped us off to the Mona Lisa, so we tried it our last night in SF. It was crowded but we were seated immediately. Italian waiters wearing ties picturing the Mona Lisa were flying all over, and we had a great view of the open kitchen. Our order was taken promptly and food arrived quickly. While waiting, we enjoyed the decor and just watching all the other guests--it seems to be a popular spot with the locals too. Right on Columbus so the #30 bus drops you off just about 2 blocks away. We wouldn't have known about this place if the driver hadn't recommended it--thanks Gordon! We would definitely return if we go back to SF. It was the least expensive and one of the best meals we had in SF.

“Below awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

Do not go unless you like to be lied to, enjoy being blown off by the owner, and eat mediocre food with dreadful service.
We had reservations for 7pm. Seated at 7:25. The hostess told us when we arrived 0 minutes early, that we would be seated in 10 minutes, but apparently all arriving guests were told the same lie. 35 minutes later, and as we were being led to our table, I complained, first to the hostess because she lied to us about how long it would take for us to be seated. When that got me nothing more than a very lame excuse, I asked to speak with the owner. This arrogant man tried to blow me off, leaving me with the very distinct impression that my concerns did not matter to him in the least.
Our waiter later apologized, and offered to comp our table by giving us a free appetizer plate for the table. Fair enough, and I was temporarily mollified.
However, we had to then wait nearly 50 minutes for our entrees. Because of these unreasonable delays we barely made our 9:30 curtain at a nearby musical. We had to wolf down our dry--over cooked pasta with seafood, to make the curtain.
So, there you are. This restaurant deserves a ZERO rating.

“It's more than great food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

It's not just great food that earns my high rating, it's the experience of being there. We only visit maybe 5 times per year, but we are treated like the most valued customers.

The selection of risotto and gnocchi is absolutely fabulous. I'd make the 40 mile treck from Mountain View just for this alone...

The place feels like Rome, from the kitch decorations to the charismatic Italian waiters, to the people on the street passing by, many of them to take a picture of the tiny car parked out front. Love this place.
