“The food is good, the view is BETTER”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Even if you're a meat eater, you should definitely go to Greens. The food is excellent- I had a spring pea ravioli which was excellent, and my travel partner had a pizza which was also quite good. You should also try their seasonal sampler for apps- they use nothing but the freshest ingredients.

But more than the food, you have to love the view. Unintentionally, my reservation coincided with sunset. As I enjoyed my excellent meal, I was simply gobsmacked by the stunning view. The sun set over the Marin Headlands, sea lions played in the water below, palates were pleased -- an unforgettable night!

“Salads, vegetables, grains, and breads”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

Three of us (a local who frequents the restaurant and two out-of-owners, all adults) arrived with a reservation for lunch at 12:30 on a Wednesday. Half the tables were occupied when we arrived, about the same when we left two hours later. Our local friend absolutely loved her Wilted Spinach Salad. We non-locals found our dishes (a linguine with veg and goat cheese, and a Spring Stir-fry) bland, under seasoned, and uninspiring. All agreed our dessert, Butterscotch Pot de Crème, was wonderful. If you're a vegetarian, odds are you'll find yourself comfortably at home here. If you aren't, maybe not so much. That said, the ambiance is delightful, the waitstaff welcoming and efficient.

“Vegetarian and didn't even miss the meat.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

This is a vegetarian restaurant, but their clam to fame is the amazing view over a yacht club and the Golden Gate Bridge. This place could charge an arm and a leg, but they don't and it is very appreciated. Being of the kind that likes meat, I was slightly apprehensive, but this did not leave me wanting for anything, except to stare at the view all day.

“Something for everyone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

We ate at Greens because we had three meat eaters, one vegetarian, and one vegan. Greens is an original from the vegetarian/vegan restaurant world, established over 25 years ago.

The location and decor of the restaurant is enough to warrant a trip. It's right on a marina at Fort Mason with amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the water. One entire wall is windows. There are interesting wooden sculptures and decor throughout the restaurant. There is a small bar area as soon as you walk in, then the huge restaurant.

We were seated in a smaller back room. It was much quieter than the larger room, but both were very nice. Our waitress understood the various dietary choices and how they would affect the menu items. Everything is vegetarian, but some items had cheese or dairy. She answered all questions enthusiastically and was very helpful. There is a mix of comfort food and Indian food that would fit into the macrobiotic category.

The food was wonderful. Between everyone at the table, we got to try a little of everything. Not one dish was disappointing! The meat-eaters were totally satisfied. (Of course the plant-based eaters were in heaven!)

The only suggestions I would have (and it is a minor one) is that service was very slow. We were with friends and looking for a very long, relaxed dinner. We have a very high tolerance for slower pacing and typically prefer it. But this was extreme. I am not sure if it was because of how busy things were or not. Regardless, it did not ruin our enjoyment of the meal because we did not have any plans after dinner.

We will definitely be back the next time we are in San Francisco.
