“Reliably good neighborhood place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

I frequented the Liberty Cafe when I lived in Bernal Heights years ago and recently returned on a nostalgia trip to the now cute Cortland Street neighborhood. Little has changed at this wonderfully friendly and comfortable place with a lovely wine bar and cafe in the back, too. The asparagus soup with white truffle oil was very well done, as was the veggie risotto. The halibut with shellfish in tomato broth didn't quite come together. Wine list is broad and well-selected. This homey place is well worth a regular visit.

“Amazing Cioppino”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I live a couple blocks from Liberty Cafe in Bernal and visit regularly. It's a great little restaurant that consistently delivers good food. Last night my family and I sat outside on the back patio and watched Rocky and Bullwinkle on a big screen, under the heat lamps and had yet another great meal.
I had the special for the night ,the Cioppino, that was the best I've ever had in SF. Amazing! We also had the burrata ( very good) and my daughter had the organic chicken with Blue Lake beans. We finished with an enormous piece of banana cream pie.
The family that runs Liberty also owns Vega across the street and also a great little wine bar a couple blocks down called Vino Rosso. Both excellent experiences as well.
All are worth the trip to our little village in the middle of the city.

“Yummy Baked Goods Etc”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

Stopped in on a walking tour and sampled some wine and baked goods. Yummy. Popped by at dinner and everything looks amazing, with huge pot pies, their signature dish. I want to check it out sometime for brunch. Definitely worth a try. Warm and inviting staff.

“Lovely little neighborhood jewel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2012

We really enjoy this place. They are known for their pot pies but the fish tacos are the best I have ever tasted. Also they have a little place in the back of the property for fun weekend brunches.
