“I'd go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

Travelling on business on my own so prefer to annoymous when eating out. This was a great resturant for a quiet, pleasant meal. The staff were nice, the wine selection very good albeit, a little on the pricey side and the food was flavoursome and quick to serve.

Don't have the oysters, they were the smallest i've ever had but the rest of this gets two thumbs up.

“Fantastic Views, Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

We ate here with friends who live just outside San Francisco on a Thursday evening. We arrived early and decided to sit at the (very busy) bar to wait for our friends. When our friends arrived, we were shown to a very nice table with amazing views of the Bay Bridge all lit up. I found the service to be very attentive without being over bearing and the food was actually very good. The prices are quite high, but I felt this was a pretty classy and romantic restaurant and wasn't surprised at all. All in all a very pleasant experience!

“waitstaff ignored us, terrible mixed drink”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

3 of us went to The Waterfront at about 4 pm for drinks. It was not particularly crowded then. We were completely ignored by everyone except the one woman who appeared to be a hostess. She sat us down near bar. We continued to be ignored, but she noticed that we continued to be ignored, so she set menus down for us.

We moved outside to take advantage of views, and she brought us our drinks, and told us she was turning us over to one of the waiters. Long story short, we were there for about an hour, and were completely ignored the entire time. We were 3 women in our 50's, not sure if this was part of the reason or what. We ordered a wine and two mixed drinks . One mixed drink was a Manhattan. It was undrinkable as it was so strong. And that is saying a lot, because we are not that picky. No one came to our table, so our friend who ordered the Manhattan took it back to the bar herself. The bartender made her a new Manhattan. Only slightly better, but still undrinkable. We finished our other two drinks (hard to screw up a glass of wine) and waited for someone to bring us a check. Of course, no one came by. After 1/2 hour, we decided to estimate the cost of our drinks and leave money.

We were walking out, and were accosted by one of the wait staff who had previously ignored us. He said we didn't leave enough money. Well, if you exclude tip, we actually had left enough money. So we settled our bill, then stood there with the money and bill, in the middle of the restaurant near the bar and the hostess station, and continued to be ignored while several wait staff, someone who looked like the manager, and the bartender all walked by or made eye contact then ignored us. Finally a bus boy asked us if he could help us. We said we just wanted to pay our bill. No one would help him either, so we finally tracked down the manager looking fellow and gave him the money.

With the exception of the hostess and the bus boy, the entire wait staff was rude, dismissive, and arrogant. The Manhattan was sub par unless you want straight whiskey. I live in El Cerrito and was showing two friends San Francisco. I will never come here again. There are too many other restaurants with bars where the staff are friendly and inviting.

“Ideal lazy lunch in the sun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

One of the few restaurants along the Embarcadero that has outside seating that catches the sun. The patio has a glass screen to keep off any breeze and the views of Coit Tower, the streetcars on the F-line and the view of the bay bridge are uninterrupted. Excellent oysters and seafood and a comprehensive wine list. I find it difficult not to go there every day when I'm in SFO.

“It's all about the location on the water”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

My friend and I decided to try this restaurant while we were taking a lunch break from visiting the Exploratorium a few piers down the Embarcadero. The menu looked interesting and of course the waterfront view was just spectacular. Prices were expensive but par for San Francisco especially in this location. The restaurant wasn't full but we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Our table had the perfect view and a very pleasant waitress immediately brought menus. Our water glasses were filled right away and our hopes for a yummy lunch were high but we had quite another long wait until the waitress came to take our order. We decided to split the baby beet salad and also an order of fish and chips. The baby beets were tender but not many, the sprinkling of goat cheese was sparse, a few nuts were thrown on top, and the salad dressing was tasteless and nearly non existent. Disappointment! A plate with 3 small hard pieces of French bread and 2 pats of butter arrived. Well OK. Finally after another loooong wait, we tried to reassure each other that fresh fried fish & chips takes time to prepare. At last, out came our plate of fish & chips, looking not like we expected. The fish tasted and looked like the breaded cod we get from Trader Joe's, edible but not what we thought a waterfront restaurant would serve. 3 medium sized pieces were nestled up against a mound of strangely narrow fries, battered string beans, some sort of unrecognizable other vegetable, and a couple of battered fried slices of lemon. Maybe this is considered gourmet but a fried lemon slice isn't really edible (I tried!) and certainly no juice remains to be squeezed on the fish. For that price, a culinary disaster! More disappointment. Meanwhile my friend had drained her water glass and no refill was forthcoming. Finally she had to get up and to ask a server for more water. Our waitress reappeared to ask how our lunch was. We replied, "not good". She had no response other than to offer us a dessert menu. By then, we didn't want to spend any more money there so we declined. Excessive prices for really poorly prepared food. Wonderful view though and a pleasant atmosphere if you don't care about the taste of what you eat!
