“Good Italian Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

The food was very good with large portions. The lobster ravioli was decadently rich. Nice place for an intimate meal. Very fairly priced.

“Best gnocchi ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

Seated without reservations, delightful service throughout. Salad, entrees and dessert were delicious. I ordered the gnocchi with some trepidation because I am picky about it, but it was exceptional. Didn't notice if the decor was dated...seriously, if the food and service are that good, who cares?

“Good Italian meal in pleasant atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

I picked this restaurant at random as I was going for a walk. It's outside of the North Beach neighborhood that is the epicenter of Italian restaurants in San Francisco, but it's perfectly credible.

The interior is small and comfortable with warm, dark decor and lighting.

I was seated at a table in the back.

I started with the Melanzane Al Forno (grilled egplant), which was cooked perfectly and served with a wonderful fresh tomato sauce.

The Grigliata Mista (mixed grill of sausage, chicken, shrimp and new york steak served on a bed of rosemary, garlic, tomato sauce) was good but less of a success than the eggplant. The tomato sauce was the same as the one that came with the eggplant. The sauce worked nicely with the sausage and chicken, but it conflicted with the steak and the shrimp.

I ordered a bottle of 2008 San Silvestro Barbera d'Asti Aleramico to accompany my meal. It was reasonably priced at $34 (I believe it retails for about $20 in shops) and went well with both courses.

The server was attentive and friendly throughout my dinner, and she was very helpful in making suggestions for menu items that met my dietary restrictions and in selecting a wine to go with the dishes.

I would eat here again.
