“Good food in crisp modern setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We enjoyed a very good brunch at Trace recently. All the food we had was tasty and the service was attentive and friendly. There is also a nice hotel lobby adjacent to the restaurant with a fireplace that served as a great place to sit and relax while awaiting our brunch guest. Ideal spot to eat if you're in town for a convention at the nearby Moscone Center.

“Comfortable, Hip Spot for Breakfast -- Newspapers Included”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

I ordered breakfast at Trace last Thursday morning, April 25, 2013. (I stayed at the W overnight, and wanted to eat breakfast, but not order room service.) Trace restaurant is quiet and clean; the service, precise and welcoming. At night, I can see the restaurant being a hive of stylish activity and buzz. In the morning, it remains stylish, but transforms to a relaxing place for breakfast.

On the menu, Trace offers a nice array of American-style breakfasts (eggs, omelets, pancakes, french toast) along with options of yogurt and granola. Your portions are tasty and filling. Coffee and juice are both immediately available as you are seated (from a center island).

Two things that I really like about Trace: (1) At the entrance, morning newspapers are generously available for diners (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, San Francisco Chronicle); and (2) The street scene directly outside -- 3rd Street, and the Moscone Center -- offers a bustling and energetic view of a San Francisco morning. The people watching can be absorbing: business people, tourists, convention attendees, art students combine to create a compelling city scene.

I recommend breakfast at Trace restaurant.
You will enjoy a nice meal in a comfortable, nicely-designed setting.

“Delicious, but very skimpy portion”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

I went there for dinner after a performance at Yerba Buena Center, and ordered scallops. Service was very quick. The price was $26.00, and for that I got some nice pasta and three small, delicious scallops. When I complained to the waiter he apologized and comped my glass of wine. I was so hungry when I left that I went to Ghirardelli's on Market Street for a hot fudge sundae.

Efficient service, well prepared food, but we didn't feel rushed. The servers matched their service with our needs.

“Great Restaurant, great food and staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

It could stand on it's own if it were not part of the W Hotel. Fresh, clean, great decor and very good food at reasonable prices. The place close to the Moscone Convention Center for a fine meal/ That helps you avoid the "convention fare". It is no further a walk than one end of Moscone to the other.
