The food at Scala's wasn't very good at all, especially for the money. At $9.50, you would expect the Caesar salad to contain more than a smidgen of cheese. Maybe they could tear the lettuce leaves for you too. And the pasta, highly touted for containing truffles, arrived at our table swimming in oil. Even the steak frites entree, which is a standard a lot of restaurants do very well, was not up to par here. The dessert sampler offered two bites of several pastries and confections -- and in most cases two bites were two too many. Wines by the glass were few and costly. Even the service was lacking: slow, perfunctory, and definitely not delivered with a smile. All in all, this restaurant seems to be resting on its laurels and/or the recommendations of hotel concierges. Don't fall for it. You can do better in a city with a reputation for good food and great restaurants.
