This is a review from someone who goes on "coffee vacations". Some people go to vineyards; I go to coffee destinations.
I have long known that San Francisco was probably the most avant-garde places in the States for coffee, Sightglass sets the standard. They roast with a reconditioned roaster imported from Europe. The whole space is very open and airy. They have not one, but two, luxurious "La Marzocco" machines! Some serious machinery in this place! The people working here were all friendly and obviously passionate about what they are doing. You had better be if you have a naked portafilter tattooed on your forearm!
This is a great place to sit on a late afternoon with the golden sun streaming in through the enormous windows. There are freshly roasted beans to buy to take home. It is spacious with lots of space to sit, with tables, upstairs. Note this is truly a serious coffee place, food is minimal, a snack maybe, but not a meal.
Note that the scenic view I mention is the inside view looking down on the operations, very interesting, not the outside view.
It is a bit off the beaten track, you have to go looking for it, but it is not hard to find, easily walkable from Market street.
Make the detour, you won't regret it!
