“Good days excercise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Large park with lots of diversity. Got out of cab at Stanyan st entrance. A couple of homeless characters, but no worse than other major cities. Japanese Garden was ok, too busy to be Zen like, but nice for an hour or so. Stow Lake was the smallest lake I have ever seen. Big Pond would be a better name, but was still a nice water feature.Walked the entire park to the Pacific coast. Some guys were getting busted near the windmill, other than that, was not worried about safety, even with carrying photo gear.
The Beach at the Pacific Coast was nice, although it was cool and windy.
Walked the highway up to the Cliff House and Sutra bath ruins, then continued on thinking we could just walk back to civilization.
Plan ahead, no cabs to be seen for miles. had no phone numbers, and seen no people anymore. so walked for many miles along Point Lobos then Geary Blvd. Just seen stucco houses and no people. A bit more nervous at this stage.Continued on anyway, as no choice, still seen no people or cabs to flag down. At a certain point we recognized Pacific Heights area and it got a little more populated. Figured walked this far, might as well keep walking to the Fisherman's wharf, where the hotel was. Long, 10 1/2 hour day, but seen lots. way better than sitting in a bus all day driving past the sights, sounds, etc. I am sure if we tried a unplanned walk in many cities of the world, the outcome could have been worse. Safer than many cities I have been to. Hometown of Toronto has areas I would not want to be in, day or night.

“Pleasant walk, many attractions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

A long park just west of the Haight-Ashbury district. Attractive to walk or cycle through (in the daytime) and containing a number of attractions (though often with an admission fee).

“An oasis in the City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

A great place to while away a few hours walking or cycling. There is a nice place for lunch at the De Jong museum, which is also near where the hop on , hop off buses, stop ( which we used). Agree with others about the hobos around, so wouldn't go at dusk. Payment required for Japanese garden which is a shame.
