I wish I had known about this site before I booked at Moffatt House, the review from 2006 and the bad experience is pretty much my very own. Moffatt is in a wonderful location and the outside of the B&B is Tudor style and welcoming. It ends there.
Entry light is burnt out, the dark first floor and no one to greet you. Our room - D, was up on the 3rd floor; the staircase is wonderful though.
This room is clearly an after-thought and not meant to be a real guest room. This room has very stained carpets, multiple and large stains. The sliding glass door to the private patio has a punched out screen, loose screen bits left in the frame. The vertical blinds are broken so the slats had to be turned one by one by hand to block out the morning sun.
The bathroom was covered in mold; ceiling, corners, fixtures, shower. The mirror is rust covered. Toilet seat, broken.
Windows did open to let in the nice night, summer air, but all the frame work is covered in mold and there are no screens for the windows.
Older bed, but comfortable, I was worried about the linens but seemed clean - the spare pillows did not have cases and were old and broken down; lumpy.
Lights burned out in bathroom and main part of room. We would not have stayed the night if it had not been 10pm already and we were very exhausted.
Next day, in the light of day - could see very dirty scuffed up walls, dust and more proof of lack of care and attention.
We packed and went downstairs to tell the owner we would not be staying for our second night. The breakfast part of B&B was a good cup of coffee and bread.
Owner poked her head out of the kitchen only once - I had to call into her thru a semi-closed door to speak with her about leaving.
She accepted our cancellation and did not suggest a fee.
Looking around at rest of the entry, common areas of the B&B, dirty, dusty, multiple burnt out lights, piles of clutter stacked behind chairs. Not a welcoming place.
Do not stay here.
