Hotel Adagio is a gem of a hotel. We got an excellent rate for our stay, impacting my value selection above. Our room, on the 14th floor, had a view of the SF skyline that was lovely. The bed and linens were luxurious. While the rooms were somewhat small, our room was well appointed, providing all the little details that good boutique hotels have become known for. The cleaning staff was attentive and meticulous. My only complaint was that it seemed like they didn't dust very often. The closet and bathroom were both roomy, and our floor was pretty quiet (even though it seemed to be almost entirely full.) The front desk staff were all awesome, and the restaurant and bar are good alternatives for a nightcap before heading up to the room for the night. I would definitely stay here again when visiting SF, as I was able to walk all over the place (from the Ferry Building to Golden Gate Park) pretty easily and with minimal uphill. The street outside is still urban interesting and diverse, something I always find fun.

Stayed in an Executive Suite. Wasn't huge, but was well appointed. Great king sized bed, extremely quiet room - bonus given the location. Obtained the room at a heavily discounted rate that provided value - would not pay full value. Had major issues with hotel's wifi and breakfast was also extremely poor value. Would stay again if I could get the same discounted rate.

Well pretty much everyone has said wat i wanna to say abt this hotel, and it is pretty true too...from the the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out the staff was all very pleasant and efficient, the front desk staff even recommended us to join a local tour to Napa Valley to which we did, and it was all good. I enjoyed the extra little touches like the lemon water available at the lobby during the afternoon and the fragrance tea in the evening.

We stayed on the 12/F so obviously and thankfully we couldnt hear the street level noise. The room was indeed very spacious and i loved the fan in the ceiling, in fact i was pretty satisfied with the room in general (i mean coming from NYC this room was double the size of the place i stayed in NY).

Now just for the slight negativity - i noticed on the first day that the snack tray above the mini fridge was covered in dust, i mean the snacks look like they havent been touched for some time...in fact i notice on all 3 days i was there, that area hasnt been touched at all.
The shower curtains when drawn makes showering very dim indeed cos of the lack of lighting...i couldnt finish my shower fast enough.
Finally, there are a lot of homeless people near the hotel and around union square...i guess cos it there are so many tourists in this area..they are not really burdensome...i just ignored them pretty much. Oh whilst im on this, for people who are not too familar with the area pls dun make a right turn when coming out the hotel, we somehow stumbled upon the Tenderloin area which apparently is the worst side of the town...although nothing happened to us, just walking near there for that short few minutes, it was pretty daunting.

Really liked this hotel. It was an affordable and trendy little boutique option in San Francisco. We were on a week-long tour from Northern to Southern California, and we stayed here for two nights.

We had a higher level view executive room. The room was great! We joined the JDV Club and had wine waiting for us when we entered. I loved the little details in the furnishings, it's different from standard hotel room fare. For some reason, I was smitten with the lamp shades, they looked lovely! And the bathroom was roomier than most hotels in this price range. Bed was excellent: soft sheets, firm mattress for those of us that like it, warm blankets. Lovely fluffy towels and a free CD for the sound system are more bonuses :) I think the hotel succeeded in communicating that cozy and personal atmosphere that one is supposed to enjoy at a boutique hotel.

Some minor down sides:
I wasn't a fan of the neighborhood the hotel was bordering. It's in the tenderloin district, and the desk clerk basically told us, when you go out, turn left, never right, because to the right, there is nothing but homeless people. She's right, and it can be kinda off-putting.

Also, we had the hardest time getting a taxi. The door man called and called on his whistle, for like, 20 minutes. Don't know if this is a San Francisco thing or something more specific to this hotel, but it was pretty cold standing outside in the September night in our nice clothes!

A previous reviewer pointed out the weak shower heads and I agree--it really could have used more water pressure. Also, I wasn't a fan of the stand-alone AC unit either. It had a cloth cover on it when I arrived, which I think is their attempt to address travelers' complaints about it, but that didn't really help! The thing is still there--why not just invest in some window or wall units?

We spent 4 nights at Hotel Adagio. The price was great, the in room honor bar was convenient. Good coffee available in the room as well. The complimentary hot tea in the lobby in the evenings was a nice surprise. The hotel is so close to Union Square you are there in less than 5 minutes. Our meeting was in another hotel that was 3 blocks away so the walk to the meeting was easy and quick. The room was comfortable. The ceiling fan was nice to have on. The room was a lilttle warm during the day but cooled down at night. There was a portable AC but did not seem to cool down much when the daytime temps were warmer. Other than that the 10th floor room was pleasant, clean and a good value. The town car was available for our trip back to the airport. That was nice!
