“Great Boutique Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

We have stayed at the Adagio several times and enjoy the smaller feel compared to mega hotels. This time we enjoyed dinner in the small lounge restaurant. Even though I would rate the food 3.5 stars in quality our server (Taina) made the experience a five! She was very upbeat, attentive and went out of her way to accomodate us.

We chose the Hotel Adagio based on recommendations from other travellers, and I have to say - we were not disappointed. We found the staff to be extremely helpful, the rooms were large and spacious, beautifully appointed and so comfortable. Location wise - for us it was perfect. Short stroll to Union Square, plenty of shopping, restaurants, attractions and close to the cable car line. We loved this hotel and if we return to San Fran in future - would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We felt a bit ripped off booking here. The hotel website pictures look very modern, however on arrival it was clear that while the reception/common areas lived up to expectations but the rooms had been given at best a refresh of decor. We asked for a quiet room and ended up next to the lift shaft, we asked for a different room but there was none available until the second night, we were offered a different room on the second night but we thought we would give it another chance as only being there for 4 nights we wanted to just get on with enjoying San Francisco rather than hanging back to move all our unpacked items. We should have moved rooms as it only got worse and we hardly slept, we asked for a different room the next night but none now available, we were offered ear plugs but we had already tried that. The room was very dark and dingy, artex on ceiling, old mattress but it had been given a refresh. We loved San Francisco and union square is a great area but I'd strongly advise booking at fishermans wharf, you will also find it easier to find nice restaurants for dinner. Service varied depending on who you dealt with.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the lift. Check your room before unpacking.

I needed to be in San Francisco for a class and the Hotel Adagio was just a few miles up Geary so I thought I would give it a try. The hotel was perfectly located, I could catch a cab to my class each morning and when I returned to the hotel it was close enough to downtown to be able to walk anywhere I wanted to go. Some of the better clubs in the area were just a quick cab ride away. The hotel was clean, the service was excellent...the bar has a great vibe with a wide range of people there but not crowded at all. If you like to work out, the hotel has a very nice gym. I went in there several times and could always get on the equipment without a wait. I am planning two more trips to San Francisco this year and I wll definitely stay at Adagio.

I've stayed at the Adagio before and after it became a Marriott Autograph affiliate. They have made renovations that have upgraded the quality of the rooms, while still maintaining the charm of a San Francisco boutique hotel (this building is a converted apartment house). The rooms are very big and well-appointed, especially for a boutique, downtown hotel. There are nice touches, such as an extra towel hook near the shower, that make the overall experience just a little better. We didn't eat in the hotel as there are so many food choices nearby and all over town. One thing you have to look out for are prices. These usually reach $300/nt. plus at this property, and are going up all over town. There are often better deals, but if you can get the Adagio for under $300, you are doing well. This hotel is also convenient to the rental car desks near Union Square. No need to keep a car while you stay here. Walk to any of the offices and rent when you need to. Just return before closing. Valet parking ads $40+ to your stay.

Room Tip: Per previous reviews, high floors are a must, the higher the better. The lower you are, the closer y...

A 5 minute walk took us straight to Union Square. Tourist bus available there and good value if you can use it for two days sight seeing. A very easy city to walk around.Concierge very helpful in arranging transport to our next destination.

Hotel Adagio is quite lovely. We loved the ambiance and decor. The food in the restaurant/bar was excellent, and there are nice touches like a water bowl for dogs, nice big chairs to sit in in the lobby, and water and coffee to drink by the front desk. The bed was also very comfortable. Overall, I feel it's a good property for the price. However...our room - or rather, the location, was terrible! It was a busy weekend, so, although we did not request it, we were given an "accessible" room on the 2nd floor, which meant that the setup of the room was weird, and that bathroom seemed purely utilitarian (not pretty at all). The "view" out our window was horrendous - through dingy, dirty windows, we saw nothing but a roof top with huge, ugly, old HVAC units. Nary a flower or plant or anything even remotely pretty. It was beyond disappointing, this being our first time staying in a hotel without kids in 7 years. Our hearts broke as we pulled open the curtains. A view is not everything, but this was beyond the pale. There was no attempt to make it even somewhat OK - like, a piece of lattice with flowers, or a few planters, or something! We asked to move but were told there were no other rooms. Also, because the business and fitness centers are also on the 2nd floor, there was a lot of hallway noise. Our friends, meanwhile, who paid the SAME room rate as us, had a room on 11th floor with tons of space and a lovely view. When I mentioned at checkout how disappointing it was, I was told "Well, someone has to stay in that room". No, no they don't. The view could be made better, or that room could be used for something else, or at the very least it could be sold at a steep discount. Really, it should not be in regular circulation as-is. I might consider staying here again because, after initially resisting what I was saying, the check out person offered a small discount and was gracious, but I would absolutely not stay in that room again.
