“What a great place to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We stayed in the Inn for 3 nights last July. We were travelling with our 2 children of 10 and 12.
The atmosphere is relaxed yet sophisticated.
What we liked:
- great bedding
- lots of space
- lots of cupboards
- children had separate bedroom (sofa was turned into bed)
- 2 televisions - so at night in bed everyone has really its own room
- nice breakfast
- very nicely decorated rooms
- clean
- friendly staff yet not overwhelming
- shuttle to center of town
- wine tasting in the evening
- welcoming
- personal service.
A minor min is that the options to have dinner in the area are quite limited - so you need to go back to the center - and that you are not located in the center of SF but that you know of course.

We awoke to the calm & peaceful morning then gathered for a bountiful breakfast. Leisure strolls, historical & natural tours, admiration of the beauty, followed by evenings spent by the outdoor fire pit with wine & lite horse devours, gave us the experience of natural luxury. The caring and friendly staff were there to navigate the individual needs of transportation, reservations and exquisite dining at both the Social Club and Commissary restaurants on the premises. Five Star Memories for all 45 of us!!

I'd spent a long time choosing our hotel for San Fran after a poor choice in NY last year, As soon as we arrived I knew we'd got the right place. The 3rd floor suite was really generous and the sofa bed big enough for teens to share. Our bed (separate room) was huge with quality bedding. It was a solid and sophisticated place without any snobbery. We stayed 5 nights and would have been happy to stay longer. We liked the fact that it was away from the city and used both the bus and the car service. We also had our own car which we gradually used once we realised SF is actually quite easy to drive around.
We thought the Presidio Social Club a great place for dinner and there is a lot to see in the Presidio without stepping into the city.
Considering the breakfast was included we thought it really good and couldn't wait to try out the delicious buns and pastries every morning which were of really high quality. We also enjoyed the wine and cheese on an evening by the fire pit. If I had one quibble it would be that the staff had been a bit slower packing up the wine and the breakfast as we were not always back by 7pm and it was so enjoyable. But that's minor and if we ever come back to SF this is where we'd want to stay.

We stayed at the Inn in May 2014. What a delight! The third-floor suite was huge. This historical building used to be unmarried officers' quarters and is charming in every way. The included breakfast and afternoon wine were both very enjoyable. The service was low key but professional. If you want ready access to the tourist highlights of SF, you may find this hotel a little out of the way. It is a 40-minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf, for example. However, you are literally in a park and not just any park, but the Presidio in San Francisco. We could see the Golden Gate Bridge and sailboats from our room. The concierge was able to get us a car (limo service) within minutes, when we wanted to get to our dinner reservation. We stayed at five hotels on our recent trip to the California Coast and this was definitely the highlight.

This was a beautifully restored hotel and attention to detail was fantastic. The room was well appointed and the bed so comfortable.

We loved our stay here and although it is out of the city hustle and bustle, we were glad about that. Use the car service for any distance trips it was good value or the free bus.

We went to the trampoline place, bowling and the batting cage. All great fun for the kids and my husband!

Breakfast was good and so was the cheese and wine time in the evening. Great fun to sit, relax and chat about your day with new people.

Loved this oasis in the city.

We spent the first part of our visit to SF in the touristy district -- but decided that we'd like to try a place a little different for the last part of our visit. The Inn at the Presidio was exactly what we were looking for! It was wonderful!

We had a two-room suite which was very comfortably decorated with chairs, a desk, couch and tvs in both rooms. In both rooms there were selections of books that were very unusual and intriguing to read (the history of camping, for example).

I would recommend a room in the front of the inn to get the nicest views.

There is no elevator, so that may be a problem for some with mobility issues.

We slept with our windows open and enjoyed the cool breezes and quietude of this wonderful place nestled at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge!

Room Tip: No elevators to the 2nd and 3rd floors, so if mobility is an issue ask for a room on the first floor...

Despite having family and friends in the city and nearby, I had grown to dislike San Francisco in recent years... Enter the Inn at the Presidio! I first stayed when the Inn was fairly new, and since then it has been the ONLY place I'll stay here. Fully booked? I'll reschedule my trip rather than stay elsewhere!

You see, I never could find a hotel (including the really posh places) that felt like a refuge from the city's dense crowds and noise...and I was so weary of feeling fleeced by inflated rates and ridiculous parking fees. The Inn is quite fairly priced by comparison with other SF choices, featuring gracious service, top-notch amenities, large well-outfitted bathrooms, and an ample breakfast to start each day. Each room is a little different, with surprising extras: a fireplace here, a balcony there, a walk-in closet, or even a view toward the bridge). The style is contemporary without being trendy, with furniture exactly where you need it.

Location is key, and the Presidio is a stunning village perched at the tip of San Francisco, backed by a forest of green and facing the sparkling bay and Sausalito headlands beyond. Filled with history, architecture, recreation, and an increasing choice of excellent restaurants, it's a cultural treasure trove I've only begun to explore. My mornings begin with a brisk walk, better each time I'm there as buildings are restored, landscaping is refreshed, and new businesses open up. I can't wait to see the final version (scheduled for completion around 2016 and illustrated in a nearby exhibit) when the main post lawn will sweep uninterrupted down toward Crissy Field and the waterfront!

Able to conveniently park my car for just a few dollars a night, I'm free to explore all of SF's colorful neighborhoods within a 20-minute drive (friends in SoMa, shopping along Fillmore St., sightseeing at Land's End, museums in Golden Gate Park, dining in North Beach, family in Mill Valley, etc.) and return to this spacious quiet haven at day's end. Heaven!

If I had one compliant, it's only that I would prefer a hot egg dish at breakfast, rather than just cold boiled eggs. I'm into my morning protein :-) But the pleasure of enjoying European-style cold cuts and rolls, along with steaming Irish oats, ably suffices!

If you're looking for exciting nightlife, walking access to SF shopping/landmarks, elevator service, or in-house services like pool/fitness/spa, this is NOT for you. But if you seek stylish breathing room from the city's bustle, with a full fitness club, day spa, and famous name chef eateries within an easy stroll, the Inn is the answer to your prayers.

Room Tip: Room 222 is a king room, not a suite, but unusually spacious and bright due to its unique position a...
