“This Hotel Helped Me Love San Francisco Again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Despite having family and friends in the city and nearby, I had grown to dislike San Francisco in recent years... Enter the Inn at the Presidio! I first stayed when the Inn was fairly new, and since then it has been the ONLY place I'll stay here. Fully booked? I'll reschedule my trip rather than stay elsewhere!

You see, I never could find a hotel (including the really posh places) that felt like a refuge from the city's dense crowds and noise...and I was so weary of feeling fleeced by inflated rates and ridiculous parking fees. The Inn is quite fairly priced by comparison with other SF choices, featuring gracious service, top-notch amenities, large well-outfitted bathrooms, and an ample breakfast to start each day. Each room is a little different, with surprising extras: a fireplace here, a balcony there, a walk-in closet, or even a view toward the bridge). The style is contemporary without being trendy, with furniture exactly where you need it.

Location is key, and the Presidio is a stunning village perched at the tip of San Francisco, backed by a forest of green and facing the sparkling bay and Sausalito headlands beyond. Filled with history, architecture, recreation, and an increasing choice of excellent restaurants, it's a cultural treasure trove I've only begun to explore. My mornings begin with a brisk walk, better each time I'm there as buildings are restored, landscaping is refreshed, and new businesses open up. I can't wait to see the final version (scheduled for completion around 2016 and illustrated in a nearby exhibit) when the main post lawn will sweep uninterrupted down toward Crissy Field and the waterfront!

Able to conveniently park my car for just a few dollars a night, I'm free to explore all of SF's colorful neighborhoods within a 20-minute drive (friends in SoMa, shopping along Fillmore St., sightseeing at Land's End, museums in Golden Gate Park, dining in North Beach, family in Mill Valley, etc.) and return to this spacious quiet haven at day's end. Heaven!

If I had one compliant, it's only that I would prefer a hot egg dish at breakfast, rather than just cold boiled eggs. I'm into my morning protein :-) But the pleasure of enjoying European-style cold cuts and rolls, along with steaming Irish oats, ably suffices!

If you're looking for exciting nightlife, walking access to SF shopping/landmarks, elevator service, or in-house services like pool/fitness/spa, this is NOT for you. But if you seek stylish breathing room from the city's bustle, with a full fitness club, day spa, and famous name chef eateries within an easy stroll, the Inn is the answer to your prayers.

Room Tip: Room 222 is a king room, not a suite, but unusually spacious and bright due to its unique position a...

We came for two nights to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and were very happy with our accommodations. We didn't have the best view (over the parking lot and looking at the church) and know to request a different room next time. The breakfast and wine/cheese were both very well managed and great food offerings. We knew we were in an area of the city far from the downtown, but that was very appealing with views of Golden Gate Bridge, the bay, Alcatraz, Palace of Fine Arts, the city skyline and all the great walks within the Presidio. We will come back and would highly recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: Check on the view from your room.

we had a great visit over 4th of July 2014 weekend. View of Suasalito fireworks from our top floor room (no elevator though). Breakfast and Afternoon food is very good, but we spoiled our dinners eating too much of it. Highlight was Sergio bringing us freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and milk by the fire pit at 9:30 PM when we got back from dinner one night! All the staff were excellent.
Only issue was whoever answers the phone for reservations was abrupt, almost rude, when I called 3 days in a row for reservations (which were full). Third call I asked about a wait list, and she transferred me to the front desk, and we got the last room for the weekend!!

Room Tip: 322, top floor center, NOT a suite so cheaper price, but big with 2 leather chairs. 2nd floor suite...

We have just stayed at the Inn @ Presidio. Overall it is a modern, light, airy hotel set in the middle of the Presidio park. The surroundings are beautiful and the hotel itself is well decorated with great facilities.

Our room was spacious with all the usual amenities including a large walk in shower, comfortable bed etc. All of which was great. Its truly a real contrast to the rest of the city of San Fran which (as you would expect a city to be) was a bustling metropolis - this is a real slice of serenity.

The staff were efficient and helpful and they were all very knowledgable when approached.

A couple of things to note if you're thinking of staying here:
- Its in the presidio park which is quite a way from downtown/Fisherman's Wharf etc - this isn't an issue with the Presigo Bus (free bus into town) but we didn't know about this for the first day. After that its no issue.
- we had a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park - we were woken on both mornings that we stayed there by either the bins being emptied noisily for 20 mins at 6am or conversations of other guests/staff at 7am followed by another lorry doing some work in the back. All in all it wasn't very peaceful and ruined the tranquility of the setting.
- Breakfast was served until 10am - every time we went down at about 9am there were only tables where others had eaten that had not been cleaned (even though the dining room was empty by then), we had to go to the kitchen to ask for mugs, hot water, cutlery etc. Most of breakfast was finished and we had to ask for what we wanted every time. They always had it and were helpful but its not really the service/standard you'd expect of a hotel of this price and reputation.

A couple of other things - the Presidio Social Club on the edge of the park is great for a drink on the way home/lunch etc. Really good food. Beware taxis - they don't know where the Inn is most of the time so make sure you get your bearings and can direct them from Letterman Drive (we had to use our own sat nav as the taxi said he didn't know where it was halfway into town!)

It is lovely and in a great place but it let itself down on small details which was really disappointing.

Room Tip: Don't get a room over the car park!

We only stayed for one night and wish we could have stayed longer. The building, although very old, has been modernised to an extremely high standard without totally destroying the history and character - and what a fantastic location; right in the heart of the Presidio with instant access to miles of hiking trails and so peaceful at night.

In the past, the US Army owned this property and it was once the accommodation for the unmarried officers. There are lots of reminders of the rich history of this place. Our room was beautiful and clean with a comfortable bed and as for the bathroom... well the shower cubicle was so large that it was possible to lie down in it! Early in the evening there was complimentary wine and snacks available in the dining area.

The front desk staff were really nice and very helpful. In the evening they organised a complimentary car to take us out to a local restaurant with pick-up and return later on. Although the service was free, we naturally gave a tip to the driver for the service. Breakfast was basic but very healthy... well except for the pastries on offer that is! I can't think of a single thing that we disliked about the hotel.

If you drive here be sure to get a parking permit from the front desk as the parking fines imposed are eye watering, even by San Francisco standards. It's pretty expensive to stay here but I personally thought it was worth every single dollar we paid and would happily stay again. The next time we visit San Francisco, this will be the first place I'll try to book.

Our absolute favorite place to stay in San Francisco. You have to see the Presidio and you really should stay here to do it. The history, the preservation, the grounds, the staff, the natural wildlife ... its all amazing. you pay a lot, but it is completely worth it. Completely.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

Our family of 3 stayed at the Inn at the Presidio for 3 nights in June. It was a totally wonderful experience. Our room was a king suite on the 3rd floor with window that opened to the front and rear of the inn. Our bed and the sofa bed our son used in the living room were both comfortable. We took advantage of the breakfast and evening wine and cheese time. It was great enjoying our wine and snacks at the fire pit each evening getting to know some other guests in this setting. The staff was universally helpful and friendly, especially Tim. The general manager stopped by the fire pit one evening to ask how our stay was. We had no complaints at all and told him how much we were enjoying our time at the inn. We used the free shuttle to go to the Embarcadero one day and used one of the extensive network of trails in the Presidio. If you are not familiar with San Francisco, the Presidio is a breath of fresh air and open spaces in the city. The old army base has been lovingly restored and cared for by the Presidio Trust. The Inn at the Presidio is a great additon to the Presidio and a wonderful place to stay as your home base to explore the city or just enjoy the immediate surroundings of the Presidio. We will definitely be back to stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor. A bit more expensive but worth it.
